Default Ignition problem ?? Please help

So I'm driving (in a turbo LS) and everything is all right, just cruising then all of a sudden my car dies is gear and RPM's go to 0 (while still in gear). I pull over and my car cranks perfect but doesn't start. I wait about 20 min then everything is ok. This happened twice in about 2 weeks. Could this be the ignition control module? Thanks.

I'd say ignition, because the tach goes to zero while the engine is still turning (in gear). Coil, control module (ignitor), or even the wiring from the distributor back to the ECM.

Do you get a check-engine light? Read the code.

check the distributor, cap&rotor, fuel. first see if your even getting a spark. if your getting a spark, see if your getting fuel. btw check your timing belt. sounds like that couldve busted on you.

sorry i didnt read that properly. there is a sensor, and when it gets hot , it shuts the motor off. the reason you can start your motor after 20 mins, is because the sensor has cooled down.

Interesting. Is there a common reason why this sensor is getting hot? This only happened twice in the last month, and it happened while I was just cruising...

BTW, no check engine light.

coil will also do this when it's cold have spark and when it's hot will not have spark you need to check it when it is in the no start condition

Today something new happened. I was driving and my RPM's starting fluctuating up and down between 1-4000, while cruising about 2000... I think the problem should be related to whatever it is that controls the rpm?

Same exact thing happened to me a week ago. I was downshifting to third going around a corner and the engine just died. Looked at my tach and it was on 0. I tried to restart it as I was coasting but it wouldn't turn over. Found out it wasn't getting a spark, and had to replace the coil and ignitor. Just got it back and it feels to run even better than before.

hmm weird, I see an ad at the top of this page, Distributor King. They have the whole distributor for 209! Now thats just the price of the ICM. I think I'll go that route.
