idle problem!!!!! help!!!!
hello all, i am new member on honda tech and i was ondering if anyone out there can answer my question about my '92 accord.... Here's the problem... one day a few weeks ago i went out to warm my car up cuz it was very cold out that morning and when i came back i noticed that it was idling very funny. The idle jumps from 1000 to 2000 and back down to 1000 again and it does this constantly now. It is very annoying and i was just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem or knows what i have to do to fix it. I have noticed that i get about 100 less miles to a tank of gas now which sucks. I usually get around 400-450, now i get close to 300 miles to a tank. Bad!!!!! If anyone knows anything i would appreciate it greatly. Thanks
Welcome!!!
Check plugs and wires..could be fuel related too. when was last tune up?
Was it cold outside the night before the first time it happened?

Are you throwing any codes CEL?? It may be your idle control valve starting to go bad.....also you may want to check your idler it may not be getting enough air and it will start a "cycle" o2 sensor maybe but most of these would throw a CEL (check engine light)
alright.........u may just be in luck. i just fixed that problem on my '93 accord last this past monday. MODULE.......right next to the igniter was the problem. i asked 3 local mechanics, and they all agreed on one thing......to get buy it new from the dealer. the mentioned that the ones that they sell at discount or pep boys may last a couple of months.... hope that helps in someway
I just fixed this problem on my car. (5th gen accord) It started out that it would do this until the car was warm, and then it kept on doing it every time i came to a stop. I took it in and there is a air sensor valve inside the throttle body that they replaced. it cost me about $300 but you could most likely do it yourself for a lot less
yeah... there is no check engine light. Thanks for all of your great insights, i truely appreciate it. I will try to play around with some of those ideas, sounds like this might be kind of a common problem with accords, mine has fairly descent miles (147,xxx). I will post how it turns out.. thanks again
Have you replaced your radiator recently? Im not sure if this has anything to do with it, but i wrecked my accord a few weeks ago and i had to replace the radiator. when i replaced it and then turned my car on it was doing that and i was like what the ****? i started driving it and my temperature needle started going up so i dumped in a lot of coolant and bleeded the air out of the radiator and it stopped doing that. im not sure if your problem is related or not but maybee that helps. good luck
