Idling speed problems -help
G'day.
Car is 94 LS 3 doors, 5 spd w/ 177000KM (about 110000 miles).
The idling speed is funny in the mornings -when cranked for the 1st time in the day.
It takes about 20 minutes for me to get to my work and during that time, when I come to a stop and put in neutral, the tach goes up and down between 1000 to 2500 i.e. 1000 then jumps to 2500 in a second then 1000 then 2500 etc. This lasts for the whole duration of the trip. I have also noticed that once driven longer, the tach settles at about 1300 and remains there. Driven even longer, the tach settles at 800 -but now I've driven closer to more than an hour!!
Weather is getting colder now in T.O. so the constant reving seems to be getting worse. In the past, the tach settle ay about 800 after about a 1 minute after a start-up but now this is happening.
Please share some expertise on this. I'd like to take it to a shop with some
knowledge.
much thanks
STIP

well during the colder weather it's normal for some fluctuation of the idle, my car will usually jump around like 500 rpm then settle at 800.
You might wanna check a few things though:
- vac lines for any leakes
- clean the TB plate
- try swapping out the TPS or IACV to see if they could've went bad
the problem you described, the jumping from 1000 to 2500 i had a similar problem. i changed the iacv and problem solved

Thanks for the reply. However, I am not very mechanically inclined.
What are VAC, TB plate and TPS / IACV and where are they located??
I spoke to my noin-acura mechanic who did a computer diagonistic and said that idle speed control computer needs to be reset. If the resetting does not work, a new chip would be required. He also said that this chip is located under the seat (really??)
Apparently Acura also put out a TSB on this idling issue according to the mechanic.
Any thoughts??
Thanks
