Default T60 - 1 vs. T3T4

Wassup guys, i'm just starting to really research about turbos right now and i'm trying to pick up as much knowledge as possible.

I would like some help in answering my question which is, what is the differences beween the t60 - 1 an t3t4 turbos. And how a stock LS block would benefit more from one of these turbos

I've heard the t60-1 is either a t3 or t4 but i'm not sure and that it has a bigger compressor than the t3t4?
Also the t3t4 is a quicker spooling turbo? So it would be helpful if you guys could answer some ?'s i have about that.

I did a search on the t60 and i just got alot of "for sale" threads.

Thanks, John

what I dont understand is if I'm trying to make no more then 450-500 HP will the T61 be a better turbo for me

like will it spool faster or make more power sooner, or is it a waste of money

When people say a 60-1 turbo they are talking about the compressor. The 60-1 comes from the T04B family and is a 60 Trim, which is how they got the name for it. Now, you can put various turbine wheels and turbine housings. It can have a T3 or a T4 Turbine housnig and the compressor housing can have a T04E(60AR) or a 70AR(T04S).

What people dont realize is that the 60-1 compressor is very very very OLD with very old technology. Did I already mention it was old? If I didnt its very old. It flosw alot, but very uneffcient. If you are going with something on your stock LS I would look into the T04E family or something with the new GT line. I never recomend a 60-1 turbo.....ever.

I like and recommend the 60-1. It flows plenty of air, doesn't spool too early which I actually like for around the town driving, and it was extremely cheap. I'm not going to get into an argument about old vs. new technology in turbos... Just saying what I like from my experience.

But, I would never recommend it for a stock LS. Get a straight T3. I have driven several LS with a t3/t4 such as a drag kit and they all suck. Right as the turbo starts to spool you have to shift. I shift at 9200 so I don't mind that I'm not seeing significant boost until 5k, but with a stock LS that kills your power band.

Straight T3 LS turbos are a lot of fun for stock motors. You'll have spool in the 3000's, get a decent power band, and some more area under the curve for your dyno's. With some decent tuning you can run around a bar on the stock motor with a T3 which should get you in the mid-upper 200's for whp, and you'll still be spooling with time to actually enjoy your turbo before having to shift.

No matter what, I definitely don't recommend anything from the T4 familiy for a stock LS. I don't care if it makes 300whp, they just aren't fun to drive. At least thats been my experience..
