Tranny pics....opinions...
I purchased this trans off a member here and I will let the pics do the talking. Opinion please on the condition of the gears, sincs, overall trans, etc. Thanks.

Those synchros are quite fucked up. Usually with normal wear, the point facing down in yer pics will round, but thats about it. Those chunks and **** and taken out of them don't look good at all. Not exactly a mint tranny.
I swear some people don't know the first thing about driving a manual transmission. I got 226,000 miles on my tranny and it's never ground once goin into gear.

the wear on the 1st/2nd syn collar is only on the reverse gear side and looks pretty normal from what I have seen..as for the other sync it doesnt make sense..the wear is out of range from wear the collar rides and the pointed side looks fine..kinda like someone forced it together or hammered it or something.

Well, first off in your first pic I wouldn't even worry about the gear where you put red circles around the teeth, that's reverse, and since it's straight cut and doesn't have a syncro it's going to get chewed up a little, that's normal...
In your second pic the syncro definetly looks pretty chewed up, at least compared to some that I've seen. I think the triangular part is the only real important part of the syncro that does the work, so I'm not sure how much the sides being chewed will make a difference. Can you take some more shots of the gears?
It looks like it sat outside for a bit, but I wouldn't worry about that too much.

Agreed. As far as synchros from Honda, I have heard you have to get the whole gearset (not all 5, but you know what I mean). There is a company that sells aftermarket rebuild kits here: http://www.transtarindustries.com/default.asp
They seem to come with or without synchros. You'd have to call them up for some real info.

To my knowledge you can't, or at least I can't, get individual syncros from honda. You usually have to purchase a gear set which usually includes like the gear(s) itself, syncros, synchro hub, etc..

I was just thinking the same thing. Or someone tried to tap the assembly onto the shaft when putting it together.

Have you had any experience w/ aftermarket replacement parts like this company? People have mentioned them, but when I fixed my trans I was worried that they wouldn't last as well as the oem parts, and I don't know anyone personally that's tried aftermarket replacement trans parts. Thanks.

Nope, just read about them on a forum somewhere. If I needed synchros, I'd probably call them though. Heard a rebuild kit was around $450, which is probably lots cheaper than the dealer.

. It would be dumb to put it back together looking like that

but it will help when i put gm sychromesh in my car is actually changes gears a lot smoother and it also prevents tranny wear which honda trannys get a lot off

The reverse gear doesn't look to bad but the 2nd pic is fucked. You can get separate sets from Honda though so that won't be a problem As far as the case goes. I would pull it all apart and have it sand/bead blasted and get that rusty bolt or whatever replaced. As far as the seller goes I would definatally try and get some sort of compensation if the tranny is not what he implied he was selling. Maybe have him pay for the sandblasting???

You don't have to buy whole gear sets from honda, just a collar shaft/synch hub/synch set for whatever section you're replacing. It looks like there was low fluid if indeed that is 5th, or a very poor fluid. I would also make sure the input shaft bearing is in good working order. That synch had to of locked up at one point and been forced back to the neutral position. I would take it apart and check the cone for signs of burning. That fifth gear doesn't look to promising either. Don't know what you paid, but if it was more than $300 I'd be really upset

you can get the syncro assembly alone with out the gear but you cant get just the brass which is the only real part you need
