Here are the ASM results. keep in mind that i fail four time before passing on my 5th try.

first try and fail miserably. fail the first time no big deal.

second visit and fail even more miserably lol officially a gross pollutor.

third visit and still fail miserably. starting to lose hope

fail miserable on the 4th try too, but can't find the result. you get the picture.
at this point i was getting ready to drive this car off a cliff along with me. lol

sticker was about to be overdue. due date was 1/08/04. this last visit was a do or die!!!! final result= pass the state ref and went to pay for 2005 sticker.

i got the NOX down to a freaking SINGLE DIGIT "1". dam i'm the ****. lol

you are in the stockton though right?? because i was born in norcal and when i had my b18c1 it smogged no problem at a chevron to get mine registered...

however down here in LA/SoCal they wont even look at it and i've had 2 smog refs tell me that it wasn't legal.

damn.........did you not have a cat or something? did you warm car up plenty before the test? I always test before smogging anyways........i tested my 88 hatch i bought first before any real test was performed, that way you will know where it stands and what needs to be done.

Drift2live, congrats.....boy am I jealous
I've got a ZC w/ turbo and although I'm not due for another year, I'm already worrying.

Questions:
So let's say you are pulled over by a cop 2 months from now. He pops your hood and you show him the sticker. But you have installed an aftermarket exhaust that is (a) not loud and (b) doesn't have a HUGE fartcan exhaust tip.
Would you still be fully protected? Or could he send you to the ref again due to the new exhaust?

Also, Dingusjt (hey man!):
Why can't they smog your GSR down in SoCal? I thought if you had all the stock hardware you COULD smog it at the ref????

Thx guys
I will probably just remove my turbo when my turn comes up and will prolly pass (for now) since NorCal is not too bad up where I live (I passed no problem the last time with my ZC, I/H/E ...it's mostly just the emissions they care about, not visual..for now. Maybe the Enhanced Smog changes this?)

ok so heres my write up on how i finally pass the smog. i'll try to make this as short as possible. if you really want me to go into detail on all my visit to the ref and what i did before each visit, please email me.

first off, yes people i converted everything to OBD1. My Nox was sky rocketing which mean the engine were burning really lean and the combustion temp were too hot.

In order to lower the combustion temperature i cut out the spring in the thermostat. In this case coolant will continuously flow through the system which cools off the combustion chamber outer wall. This resulting in a cooler combustion temperature.

I was using the Skunk2 manifold which help bring in even more air. To slow down the consumption of air i stuff some towels inside the intake box. lol

To make sure i pass this time i had a second Cat welded in. Its one of those new style cat that you could barely tell if its a Cat or a silencer. It cost me $100 from Pacific Muffler. Great price

One thing that i would like to warn everyone about is not to use any chipped ecu for smogging. The chipped ecu was the result of my second visit to the ref. chipped ecu= .

The ecu that i use to pass the smog was a STOCK P28. I told the ref that i was using a USDM ecu. He was like ok thats good. So i just kept my mouth shut since he didn't mention anything about having to use a P30 ecu.

So there you have it people. Did i cheated my way to passing the ref? Everyone has their own opion and are entitle to keep it to themself.

An Important Note.

When you go ref your first gen b16. do not tell the ref that its a first gen b16 instead tell him that its a JDM b16 and you want to smog it as a 94 del sol b16a3.

also how about u shut down the car let it **** for a while maybe cool down the engine.. for nox to be low..
these proves the JDM motors don't pass for ****

takes some serious work to get it to pass

http://members.aol.com:/megabighulk/fucksmog.jpg

my score comparsion haha the 25mph is going lower the 15mph is going higher.

you can just take out the thermostat as long as you have a gasket to seal up your thermostat housing. if you shut off your engine and let it cool off then your cat is being cool off too. your cat needs to be hot to be working 100%. just weld in a second cat. i will post up a picture of my new cat on Monday.

or...if you're me, just happen to have a bad thermostat thats stuck wide open. . i was actually thinking about buying another cat, and running 2 or maybe 3 cats (if i really had to).

First off. . congrats man!

So he just asked about the ECU and never actually looked at it?

And he was cool with you having an after market intake manifold? I've been looking around for a stock Del Sol intake manifold for a while and can't find one. It would d be much easier to just get the Skunk manifold, but I figured that would be a no no at the ref. That's good to know.
