Default newbie.. need some ques answered

Posted: Thu Jan 08, 2004 4:44 pm Post subject: newbie.. need some ques answered

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi All;

I just moved from the Chrysler world to a 02 civic Si Veloz coupe. I am trying to get a handle on the terminology and upgrades that i can do to my new machine. The car came with an AEM CAI on it... one of the probs i have is that someone at honda when i took it there said that the CAI runs down to far and may start sucking water but he wasnt sure... Im wondering if this is true? i thought these things had a valve or something to avoid sucking water on a rainy day.

secondly; i am considering puting an exhaust on it but am unsure of what to go with. One guy at a performance shop recomended that i go with DC headers, Greddy EVO cat back system and tenabe muffler... he said not to go with the magnaflow stuff as its too noisy... this stuff appears to be very expensive (3 grand) just wondering what everyones thoughts on this where... i want to increase horsepower but not outrageously and still maintain good fuel economy.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks all

check if your intake has the check valve on it.. it should. your probably ok without one though

dc headers are good, any name brand exhaust will be fine, depending on how loud you want it to be.

CAI does suck up water, jsut leave that plastic **** on the bottom of ur filter on. u probably wont suck up water.. since u live in canada... erm iono, maybe u can cut ur intake shorter? i have no idea. ther are some short CAIs somewhere out there that go a bit downward but not all the way.

as for exhausts... hmm... i personally would not get headers... dc headers dont do that much, 3-4 hp?? 1 tq for $300?? unless u planning to go crazy on ur motor, i personally dont think u should get headers. if ur not planning to run 13s, stay stock as much as u can, more reliable. for exhaust, same thing. if u want it to look nice, i say u get a universal muffler such as.. Apex N1 and weld on to some piping to save $$... ES muffler is pretty inexpensive also.

if i were u i would get.. integra type-r muffler with 2.5 inch piping... with intake... that setup is pretty loud on its own at high rpms, but quiet at low rpms so u dont attract cops while driving to get grocieries
