just wanted to know when i put my new eagle rods in can i reuse my ROD BEARINGS from my stock rods? they only have 40,000 miles on them really low and i dont seem to have any problems with them right now.

what do you guys reccomend. anyone in here that has done the same thing and had a good experience?

 

simple answer is no no and never no no really big no. The real reason is the old bearings are made for the rod journal and crank journal size, and im sure they are worn from use. You need to have new bearings sized.

ah man dont tell me i am going to have to take my damn crank to a machine shop and have them plastiguage it and then go to acura and get the correct color bearings. is that what i have to do?

if so can some one tell me exactly what steps i have to do to get the correct bearings.

you can do it , but iwouldnt reccomned it to save a few $$$. not worth it. if you got the motor open, just take car of it noe rasther than having to rip it apart later.
just have whomever is building the motor spec the crank and get the parts frm honda.

You need both the block and crank to tell what bearings you need and yes just go to Honda they can tell you. If you have a factory service manual you can actually figure it out yourself though.

I always plastigauge to make sure everything is good.

 

well i just called a buddy of mine at honda this is what he said

" you wont know anythign untill you take the block apart, but when you do examine the bearings, as long as as you dont have any scarring on the bearings you can reuse them with low miles, a lot of peopel change them out anyways for extra insurance"

huh? can anyone confirm this?

 

Yah, Eagles are machined for a size 3. Get some ACL Rod Bearings and call it a day. 50.00 bux for ACL Rod Bearings and just plasticgauge them. Piece of cake.

 

You have to measure..no guessing allowed..do it right

 

so the best thing for me to do would be:

tear my block down and take my block, crank, and old bearings to a machine shop have them measure everything to determine what bearings i need then go to honda and get those exact bearings? would honda OEM bearings work with eagle rods? do i have to use ACL?

or instead of taking everything to the machine shop couldnt i just take everything to HONDA and hav them look at everything and tell me wha bearings i need? is honda capable even capable of that? or is it only a machine shop capable of that?

 

i just want to make sure what i do is prefect because i would hate to have to tear anything down all because of that. i just want to get the right information thats all

 

Shawn, getting the codes for the bearings isn't that bad and you wouldn't really need to take anything to a machine shop or Honda to let them know what you need.

will HONDA bearings work with EAGLE rods?

the reason i ask is because like 2 or 3 people said i can not reuse my old bearings because the eagle rods come sized for number 3 bearings or something liek that so i need to get new ones.

but what if i measure everything out and it happens that again the new bearnigs i need arent number 3 again. then what? im so confsed

 

yes Honda Bearings will work with Eagle Rods

 

When you switch to the eagle rods (or any different rod than the original) the bearing thickness required may change. Think about it the crank diameter is remaining constant but you may be altering the rod inner diameter.....thuis requiring different bearing thickness.
The correct sized Honda bearings will work in the Eagle rods...ACL bearings with correct oil clearnaces will also work.

Using a #3 for Eagle rods is a nice starting point but don't take it for granted the size may not be correct. Measure the diameters and size the bearings or at lease use plastigauge.
I agree this is not something to shortcut, may as well do it correct the first time.

if you dont have the correct sized bearing plan on NOT keeping the engine in the car for 100 miles. it will get fuked up..

you answer is NO, the numbers on the crank correspond with the letters on the bottom of the block, you have to look closely but they are there...

the letters correspond with the numbers on the side of the rod.

what color is number 3? I'm also using eagle rods, and all my stock rod bearing color were green, they have green color on the side, so I bought a set of green which me 170euros, so dont tell me I'm gonna need to another set.

 

When i purchased my Eagle rods it was recomended to run all green bearings with the eagle rods. I did just that and never had any problems.

what year is your motor?

 

you still have to plastigauge it, different rods have different diameter on the rods and you need to re-check the celarance, it is not the same from motor to motor even for the same year and mileage.
