Metal gaskets are better than paper almost in all cases. You can also apply some gasket maker before you squish the gasket for better sealing too.

The gasket paper won't last long at all. You should just get the high temp gasket sheet which has metal on both sides. I think I paid $18 for a 12" X 24" sheet... WAYYY better for what your doing. A thin copper sheet is even better if you want to make your own. Both are very inexpensive and labor intensive (compared to buying gaskets).

oh and if you find some copper sheet stock you will want to anneal it so it will soften and conform to the surfaces better. Just heat it with a torch for a little while.
