Default raising compression on h22

i intake header exhust and an h22 swap stage 3 clutch. i was looking to throw in some type-s pistons and slightly milling the head to raise between 11:1 and 12:1 what all other mods would be needed to make this possible and what kinds of hp gains am i going to be looking at

Does anyone know exactly how much compression you would get w/ a Type S Block (11.0:1 Compression) but with the middle layer taken out on the OEM Head Gasketat

Type S pistons will get you right around 11.0:1, and milling the head will get you somewhere between 11-12:1. It's about 10 hp per compression point, so from the jdm h22 10.6 to about 11.5, you'd prolly get somewhere right under 10 hp. I'm not sure if the jdm h22 has floating wrist pistons, but check on that.

Here is a link to a bunch of Type-S piston stuff that has been going on recently, as well as other links to some related stuff. Search archived content (Author: Flyrod)and you will find formulas for figuring the compression after milling an H22 head. I think that if you use Type-S pistons with .015" mill/deck you get .44:1 bump in compression and it is like .6:1 with .020" mill/deck.

The OEM gasket is about .030" and 3 layers, so i think that it would be like a .010" mill and would definately bump compression. But I would be careful about doing all motor and taking apart the OEM head gasket. It prolly doesn't matter if your engine is closed deck but if you've got an open deck then the head gasket helps keep the cylinders from moving at High RPM. Hope it helps

barely above a 11.0:1
1 full compression point is a 4% increase in power theoretically
check the piston to valve clearance if you're gonna run some big cams.

would you recommend running the .25 overbore type-s pistons and also do you have to aftermarket rods or should i just stay stock

If you have the engine all apart and you are going to upgrade the pistons/rings then .25mm OS pistons can be used. You should rehone the cylinders anyway. but the OS pistons will only give you about 10cc more displacement IOW ~ .5%. So that is a lot of extra work for minimal gain.

I'd say that if you wanted more displacement then sleeve the block and run 11.5 forged pistons @ 89mm. it'll give you about 100cc of displacement ~ 5% difference and a lot more torque and the bottom end will be bullet proof.

granted that is a lot more $$$ but hey more power=more money. What exactly are you planning on doing with this motor? Strip? Track? Street?
