Default Rollbar....decisions, decisions.

Ok guys, The Mrs. decided my B-day present is going to be a roll-bar I suppose she wouldn't love me as much if I was decapitated.

Im trying to decide btwn to AP's.

Street

or

Race

Can this bar be used w/a passenger seat?

I'd like to keep the bar as light as possible, thats why I I'm leaning towards the street. However I would really prefer the harness/shoulder bar because I'm running a 5-pt harness w/fixed back Corbeau Forza seat..

The car will see weekly autox w/limted HPDE (ie tha Exp0). Car has no rear seats, and removing interior parts is A-ok.

any advantages to either bar?

Also, is the weight diff btwn the two that substantial?

Any other reccomendations are appreciated as well.

TIA

yes but very limited, and you would have to move the seat forward if you want to recline them lower.

I had the race bar in my ITR with removable cross brace and harness bar. This would allow for you to recline the passenger seat with these bars removed and still have the proper bracing for the track. I ordered mine through I/O Port and the removable options were taken care of at Autopower before shipping. That might be a good compromise.

Do you remember the price, and where you ordered from?

Everyone I know that has the removable bar says that it's too much of a pain to get in and out so they leave it in all the time.

That's the one. Talk to Ken at I/O Port racing. IIRC, the removable option added $100 total ($50 per bar) to the price.

Ignore the black cage in front. The bar I'm talking about is the white one in back. You can see both braces in this pic:

For the Harness Bar. If you upgrade to a racing seat (assuming you haven't) you will want a harness, as the regular seatbelt just doesn't keep you in the seat very well when tracking the car (assuming you want to).

I have a 6 point APower cage in my GSR and a Sparco one piece driverside racing seat, and I totally forgot (and dont care anymore) about the seats not being able to recline.

Right, I already have 5pt in my car. But it is mounted to the stock seat belt holes w/eyebolts..

It is rather inconveinent because of the length of the belts leaves little room for adjustabilty.

Yes, the race bar is safer because of the diagonal.

I suppose there's the thought that anything is better than nothing. Depending on your use of the car, it might make sense to have both the harness and diagonal removable.

travis, you don't happen to know the weight of the bar shown, do you?

....at this point I'm thinking the weight diff is minimal, and Ill just fill up w/a lil less gas, or pull out some more crap

Thanks

PS: is that bar CW?

whats the point of a removable diagonal if you have a harness bar? is there any room left to make it more practical to just remove the diagonal?

it *looks* like it would allow the seat to recline a *bit* more, or easier to stuff things in the hatch area..

but, I see your pt.

Thanks travis!

hrm... now I caught this in the ITR forum.
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=724414

If I remove this...it would account for *some* of the extra weight of the bar.

hrm, Im still wondering if it's safe to remove since my car is basically driven daily.

Opinions?

Travis has been thru several different setups. We both are using cages from KIRK, but the cars involved are dedicated track. The Autopower bar should be built with the harness bar permanantly attached to the main hoop. Personally, I would want the diagonal welded in as well. The way the SCCA GCR and NASA CCR read there needs to be an attaching brace between those 2 anyway if the car is getting a logbook.
Weight of a 4-point will be ~100 pounds using 1.5" x0.095 wall DOM tubing. As far as removing anything that looks structural-DON'T. Something to consider.

I have this Autopower bar in my ITR with removable diagonal and cross-brace. Never took either out since it went in. It weighs 58 lbs with all bolts and mounting hardware. Got it from ioport racing.

Prices:
Autopower 60981 race $269.95
Autopower BICB+ASB $109.90
Autopower padding RBPC-5 $24.75
Autopower cable ties T11 $9.95

And two 5 point belts:
Safe Quip harness $205.00 each

Don't know about this year, but last year it took about 3 weeks from placing order to delivery date from IO port.

I bought the race roll bar but requested the cross brace and harness bar be welded. Don't know it that had anything to do with the timing.
