Default jackson racing supercharger making abnormal noises.

i have a '91 civic crx si with a jackson racing supercharger. lately the supercharger has been making a rather funny noise. the sound is rather like there's debris being sucked in or something. a sandy noise. and this sandy noise seems to occur more often when i shift early and gas it hard. say a floored gas pedal in 4th at low rpms. anybody have an idea on what the problem is?

a list of mods off the top of my head:
- jackson racing supercharger
- smaller diameter supercharger pulley, raises maximum boost to around 9psi
- dc sports header
- k&n filter
- 450cc injectors from a mitsubitshi eclipse turbo
- 1 step colder spark plugs (stock plugs for an audi 9000 turbo, I think)
- removed the rising rate fuel pressure regulator from the jrsc setup (modified computer program instead)
- tokico blue shocks
- some no-name adjustable springs
- acura gsr '95 wheels
- flowmaster muffler
- misc computer program mods

You sure its not detonation? With mine, when I would get on the gas kinda hard, it sounded like a soda can rolling down the street, and it turned out it was detonating.

you know what that description sounds about right. i posted in the CRX thread and somebody suggested that detonation may be the issue as well. since i really dont' know too much about cars (my brother-in-law gave me this one), any suggestions on how to fix it?

ok well, i talked to my brother-in-law a bit. and it seems like this isn't a new issue. he tried retarding the timing and he said if i played around with it i could probably eliminate. but as long i ease off the gas when it happens, i should be fine. man the car is quick tho. i just put new tires on it and it is fast.

What are you guys using for Air/Fuel Management? Apex S-AFC? E-Manage?
What size injectors are you using for what amount of boost? 310cc? 400cc?

I am trying to figure out what i will need to get to install my Jackson Racing SC in a few weeks

do you have any kind of gauges, like a A/F to tell if it is leaning out? what do your spark plugs look like?
And what are you using to control the 450cc injectors? AFC hack, SMC?

Man you need to do a lot more research. Detonation is BAD for your engine. Do you have the jr boost timing controller? Instead of retarding your base timing it pulls more timing as the boost increases. What are you using to control the timing and fuel? In the mean time you should be running the highest octane gas you can buy. That will help with detonation, but you need to get the system straightened out because if the fuel and timing aren't properly tuned then you are not getting the full power out of your system.

Thats why I asked..... Jackson racing assumes you can just bolt this one and run it at 6psi? Do they think that the the stock Honda A/F maps will compensate?

I dont think thats a safe route.

yes detonation is bad indeed ...i bought a ls/vtec jr supercharged teg...went out beating on it didnt know the detonation noise....next thing i know the car kills and wont start...go back to garage no compression in 1 or 2 cylinders...tore down ther block a month later and my pistons are melted on sides and pieces broke off them. I got the boost retard controller from JR and u can turn the dial to get fid of detonation...good octane gas in important also
