Three words: Troy Lee Designs (Corona, CA). $300 and up for anything you want in hand painted and airbrush combo. He does all the top racers.

He does sticker kits too, for about $30 - 45. Some nice stuff. Do a web search, they have a site. You can get the kits cheap from Chapparal Cycle Supply. (chapparalcyclesupply.com???).

PS> Chap is THE hizzot mail order hookup for discount motorcyle, ATV and watercraft equipment. Helmets, visors, gloves, and ALL that other ****.

couple pics of my lid.photo doesn't really do the colors and flake justice.

not custom painted,it's a Ben Bostrom replica.as far as painting your own,i'd assume you'd treat it like painting any fiberglass part using automotive paint supplies..
if you can afford it though, the way to go is a professional custom painter.i also had the Troy Lee "Speed Bubbles" kit on one of my old helmets-for $20-$30 it's good to add a little color to a plain helmet for cheap.

500, Friggin OUCH. Ol Troy must be doin good, they went up a bit. I remember partying with him around '89 on the mountain bike circuit at Mammoth when we were all broke.

Chap has the sticker kits for $25 and up (20 for closeouts). Combining them with a single color fade or other easy paint is cool. 'Thorn' kit was cool, lots of others. Each kit comes in 3-4 different color schemes of the same style.

As for painting, ya gotta be careful. Automotive paints, lacquers, and some enamels with a lot of harsh solvents may damage the shell's integrity (and thus ruin the helmet's safety). Acrylics, and acrylic enamels are usually a safe bet. So is anything water based. A lot of spray paints are not safe. Anything with Tolulene or Xylene is not safe for most shells.

I just ordered a $6 mugen sticker sheet and placed some of the stickers on my white helmet.

Looks sweet and its cheap. Plus the fact that I like to keep things simple.

My guy said, "The dude is living in the past! All top quality helmet painters use automotive urethanes and it dont hurt a helmets integrity. Most of the top helmet manufacturer's use automotive paint as does his beloved Troy Lee!"

If anyone wants their helmets painted, he does great work. His screen name is AIM/AOL ----> bigzukirider

I'll take some tonight. Expect them tomorrow.

Mugen stickers are very nice as they are the type that stick on, then when you pull of the clear rectangle, they just leave the lettering. Looks great

-I know there is at least one other guy on here who has done this
