Will JDM Final Drive void warranty (Searched)
:topic: thanks!
And if anybody has one to sell me that would also be great. And any information on installing it. Like how much would it cost and what are the downsides.

umm yeah, I would have to say it def. would void ur powertrain warrenty....I mean OEM honda or not, opening up ur tranny and putting a part that did not come in any NA version of your car pretty much defines what exactly "voiding the warrenty" is
Im sure it would void the warranty, although it is an OEM honda part..so that makes me wonder.
But to void the warranty they would have to know its there..
There really aren't any downsides to the JDM FD IMO. The motor is rev'd higher @all speeds, but that is a good thing IMO.
maybe *slightly* worse gas mileage, but we are talking minimal amounts here.
Price is about~300ish

It will only void your warranty if they can prove that it was the cause of a failure. With that said, most dealerships will simply deny anything that they can...however it's not up to them to deny, it's up to Acura to make that decision, you have the right to appeal to the Regional Manager and have them make the decision.

I fully agree with what you say, but the only thing that makes me wonder if I know people with who have like supercharged NSX's dont have their warrantys voided. And almost all comptech parts that are installed by acura also does not void the warranty (with exception of the race parts)
Just some food for thought, I am going to end up calling acura and asking them if they install it if they will void the warranty, but im getting it and going to install it anyways.
:edit: and what the hell is with HT and it not registering it's views. Wonder if they are doing some kind of upgrade. I dont remember the 2.0.6(z) ever being there

Yep, we done FD on ITR, SI and RSX here in the past. Now, will it be cover under warranty if they blow up the motor, 99% of the time when someone blows up due to misused of the item/product.

Yep, we installed a few in the past. As long its installed by us, you are cover. But you go out and race a Hatchcrap and eats up the clutch or over rev the motor (i.e. missed shifted), thats the price you pay to play.

in my opinon i think the only way theyll void the warranty is if they know you tampred with the transmission. even a master tech wont know that theres a 4.9fd. the way they know you tampered with the transmission is by checking the bolts if it was ever removed. I know because I work at a Honda dealership.
snake01 took it as far as court, and lost.
JDM FD installed by the dealer, few thousand miles later, shift rod breaks clean inside tranny. Obviously unrelated to the difference in FD, and prolly due to a dumbass technician doing somthing stupid.

thats scary, Im still debating now whether or not I should do it then. I just paid $1300 for a extended warranty to 100kmiles. That would suck if they deny me for something. But like you say they prolly wont know unless the bolts have been tampered with. Ohh well, How much is the labor on average to have acura install the FD?

They wouldn't know? If the tech is smart, after a test drive he should be able to figure it out. When I took mine in, they saw the tranny had been droped probably from the marks on the bolts. But when they took it for a spin, they said my speedo was off

Thats true AssPenny, but from when I got my vavles adjusted and I got mad becuase the tech brought the car on a public road, I told them that I dont ever want them to take it out of the parking lot again. Because they cant replace the car if something happens on a public street and just money wont suffice. So I dont think they would notice in a parking lot.
Also the techs at my local dealership are not very knowledgable on the ITR. I always take my car to the same guy and he says "I love your integra is it a type-s or gsr" But we will see.
AssPenny do you think its worth the investment and how much did it cost you to put it in or did you do it your self. If so how much would you estimate it would be

If I had to mod my car all over again, the 4.9 ATS would be the first mod I would have done. As for cost, I'm not sure what people are charging these days, but I installed it my self. Not that bad, Willard and I did one at expo in about 4 to 5 hours w/ a flywheel and clutch install.

This - along with your question - shows a misunderstanding of how warranties work. As Austin wrote (at the same time as your post), warranties don't get voided. No matter what you put on your car, the warranty is still in effect. However, the warranty is there to cover fixing any problems that come up. And if a problem is caused by the aftermarket/non-OEM equipment that is installed on your car, then your Acura warranty won't cover it. (There is an explicit exclusion in the warranty.) Many aftermarket parts come with their own warranty, so that if there is something wrong with the parts themselves, the aftermarket company will make good on them. The problem with this is pretty familiar though - each company (Acura/Honda and the aftermarket part company) can blame the other's parts for the problem, and you can get warranty coverage for that problem denied (even though the warranty is still in effect).
This is true of all aftermarket parts, including Comptech and including JDM parts not available in the States. If, for example, a Comptech supercharger causes a problem in an NSX transmission, that problem is not covered by your Acura warranty (and Comptech is not likely to help either). It may be covered on an individual basis if you find a sympathetic dealer or regional manager, but that may be a matter of chance as much as anything else - and again, there's no difference between Comptech and any other manufacturer of aftermarket (or non-U.S.) parts.

Yep, we have 2 S/C NSX locally. One of them kill the stock clutch and he knew it was not covered under warranty due to highstress related to the engine. But we took the neccessity to covered it anyways. One, because it was his 8 NSX he bought from us. (we used to be the 2nd most sold NSX dealer in the country), second, we wanted his business, so we took care of it. Hence why we get a few NSX customers all over Florida.
It depands on certain dealerships. When I work at the Honda dealerships; awhile back, the ****, my service manager, wouldn't even think twice to cover something stipud on a S2000. However, my service manager here, he's young and somewhat into modding hotrods, so takes it consideration at times.
On top, Acura customer normally get a better treatment than Honda. Its just given.
Not only that, my old Regional manager (retired) used to work with Mr.Honda and was with Honda for 20 years. And you wanted to know the real scoop on certain things that no one in the US would know, he was the only one. He lived here due to the weather related to his health. It only took 1 phone call away to find something out only Honda of Japan would know.
