Default HeadLight Condensation -- Taking apart headlights....

Both my headlights have recently started getting condensation in them. Apparently Acura extended warranty does not cover this? And its $600 each to have Acura replace them, or $300 each to buy new assemblies.

I came across where some people bake their headlights in an oven, and then separate the lense, clean it, and seal it back together.

I found this website. It talks about painting the headlight assembly, but its the part about taking it apart and resealing it that is relevant if it works.

Has anyone tried this?
Does it work?
Any pitfalls to look out for?

Ive never done it to ITR lights, but we just did it to my friends WRX headlights. The oven trick worked like a charm. The key is to seal it up good enough when putting it back together.

I was just reading a post yesterday about people putting hid's in there civics and baking there headlights and disassembling them and putting them back together. Obviously your not putting hid's in but if you were to reseal it with silicon very well you could prob fix your condensation problem.

You need to identify if the source of the leakage is indeed caused by poor headlight sealing. Sometimes, hairline cracks in the lens or cracked housing will cause also condensation. It may not be poor highlight sealing.

In my old VW days, we just used to drill a small hole in the bottom of the headlight to let the moisture drain out. Worked very well and saved me a few hundred bucks buying new headlights. I suppose this would work on the ITR too, if you were willing to do that.

there is a drain tube on integra lights, it may be clogged, try blowing some warm air in there, also you can unscrew the level with a philips head and blow out the moisture.

http://www.skafia.com/hid - I have headlight disassembly instructions.

I don't recommend you doing it, getting it to seal back up properly is a bitch... I never had a condensation problem afterwards, but I think it's not worth the trouble...
