Where is a stock ITR's whp supposed to peak?
Just had my car dynoed a few times....
The car made 165whp in nearly stock form, but it seemed to begin dipping at around 7600-7800 rpm. Is this the normal place for the power to begin to decline on a stock ITR? I always just wind it up to near redline.. but if theres nothing weird with this peak location... shouldn't i be shifting sooner ?
Thanks,
Jon

^bump please^
I've been looking around, and the stock peak whp rpm seems to be 8000. I'm making 165whp at like 7600-7800, then i begin to dropoff. Any ideas?
A friend recommended an ecu.

the problem with shifting much sooner then redline is that you'll end up just out of VTEC in the next gear

Have you done some regular tune-up on your car lately? For example, adjust the valves, check timing up, fuel pressure, spark plugs, etc.
The peak power should be around the 8,000 - 8,200 rpm area on a stock R motor.

Austin,
You may have a good point.
However, others who mentioned valve adjustments, etc.. maint. may have a good point. I have never had a valve adjustment yet, since the mileage is so low. It is possible that is causing a low peak rpm?
As for the 165whp peak... yeh, I was pretty pleased with that too... but as for it starting to dip at a lower than 8k rpm... not too sure about that. I'll try cleaning the filter and taking it from there......

You want to land where max torque begins, not max horsepower....if you land too low in the RPMs, you waste time climbing back...if you land after, it's a waste....
Torque is what you want to concentrate on...torque.

wait a second.. you want your cars whp to peak later? i dont understand that. wouldnt you want to get to that 165whp as quick as you can? i would rather have 165 @ 7500 than 165 @ 8000.
im sure theres no dramitic dip after the peak. rev it out to 8600. ur probably still making a good 158-160 up there
