Default 94 eg startup

Ok my car is a eg. I kind of drive it hard, but not as hard as many people do. It has at least 108k miles on it. its a great car and i dont have much problems with it. The problem i have now is that my car struggles to start up. but after i start it up, turn it off and start it again, everything starts up pretty normal. I have noticed that the engine check light goes on a split second when starting up then goes off. It is pretty cold where i live in the morning. I live in Californa so it shouldnt be as bad as civics up in the north. Could the problem be that the car struggles to start up because the engine is really cold? I keep the car garaged when im at home.
I also noticed that my engine seems to get hotter than normal after short times of driving. Today i was bored in traffic and was revving the car for fun. Would revving the engine a few times make the engine temperature rise a lot? I used to drive at night when its cold and my engine temp never got as hot as it did today, and i didnt drive that far, lets say 20 minutes.

Anyone know the answers to my questions? I would definitely appreciate any help

Well, yeah you prolly got some sort of cooling issue, whether it be not enough coolant or a leak or or or or........

revving for fun.... no comment

but hesitation starting can come from a # of things.... try a tune-up

the engine reving up 'n down is probably ur thermostat. my car did that before, and it kept overheating all the time when i was in stop 'n go traffic. change ur thermostat and that should fix ur problem. as for the car laggin when u start it up, mebbe it's ur battery. my junk civic that's parked in my driveway lags a lot everytime i start it up in the morning, but it starts up fine after i start it up once. i know for a fact that it's my battery on that car, so check into that. if it's not, then ionno

yeah sounds like you just need to do some overlooked maintenance. change your coolant (maybe thermostat), oil, filter, plugs, wires, distributor cap & rotor, and do a valve adjustment - that should have it running great.
