The new CR-V was previewed in Autoweek:

"The 2002 CR-V gets all of those things, starting with an all-new 2.4-liter inline four, using Honda’s i-VTEC variable valve timing system, taking the place of the previous 146-hp 2.0-liter. The 2.4 turns out 160 peak horsepower at 6000 rpm and 162 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm, making it the first American-spec Honda four with more torque than horsepower."

A 2.4L VTEC 4 cylinder .......... hmmmmm, wonder what kind of motor mount kit it will need to work in a hatch!!!

if it spins the wrong way like all the other new Honda engines then all the motor mounts in the world won't make it work with the older civics. It would be a tasty swap into the new hatch though. Too bad the new design looks like home made *** pie.

I have heard that the next generation CRV will be based on the Accord chassis meaning that the engine might not swap into the civic at all but who the hell knows. Anything is possible with enough money and willpower.

Why not?? You would have the tranny too, and could rig up the linkage and mounts to make it work without too much hassle as long as you know what you are doing .......

The whole "engine spins the wrong way" thing is not that hard to overcome with money and time .....

I'm willing to bet someone is already trying to figure out how to put the K20 into an older hatch right now ........ hell, someone figured out how to put in and wire up and H22 into an EF. And now there are mount kits and wiring kits to do it!

I have brought this up already a couple times. The key thing about the 2002 crv is that is it based upon the 7th gen civic chassis.

That means that putting the new crv motor into a 7th gen civic will probably be as easy as putting a b series into a 5th or 6th gen civic.

I can't wait till someone does it! If only I had the money I would do it ASAP.

Most of the early hybridders didn't have that much money, just the ingenuity to try and figure out how to make it work.

I'd be psyched to try it out, but I have ZERO cash available!

let's keep thing simple here gentleman. why not just got a regular John and Jane Doe B series swap, and hook it up to the snail.

Althought I'd give mad props if someone did do a swap like that in to a 5th gen.

BTW I thought the motor was the only thing different on the new CRV's, and they hadn't really did full remap of the CRV yet. I believe current CRV uses the civic chassis with the new engine; could be wrong.
