sputtering in VTEC??
ok heres my prob. i have a 92 civic ex w/ z6, 2.5" exhaust, high flow cat, intake, and full msd ignition. my car has been kinda sputtering at 5000+ rpms, the needle bounces around and it backfires. i put in new ngk spark plugs, the stock equivilent ones, that helped for a lil bit but now its bein a ***** again, i found in my manual that there is a diff. spec of plugs for high speed/high rev driving, but i didnt see that before so i didnt put em in. could my msd be interfering, like puting out too much power for plugs to handle, or could there be a prob w my vtec solenoid? any help would be greatly appreciated
cheers

i was reading this **** in auto today! well.. check the iginition components.. definitely...
misfiring = spark ignites air/fuel mixture too early
possible problems could be... what type of spark plugs.. cold/hot? are they gapped correctly? and... yeah, you gotta check the coil and all the other stuff that is aftermarket... good luck

A customer had a similar complaint and It turned out to either be A) a freak sparkplug that was bad to begin with, or B) Bad gas. I changed both after checking everything else and all the sudden it corrected. I think it was bad gas.

ya i bought the car w/ the msd, so i cant put the stock in, yes its the tach that bounces, ill try sime new plugs, but how do i adjust the timing??
It could also be fuel. You should see if it is your fuel pump or fuel filter. However, if it was fuel it would probably lag throughout the powerband. But hey it's worth a try. Good luck

if you never messed with the timing, and it ran fine, then dont mess with it now

Yup, get rid of the MSD stuff, it's one more thing you have dicked around with and is probobally causing your problems. Your ignition can handle upwards of 300+ hp and Im pretty sure you aernt there just yet.
