Default In need of Camshaft and head guidance!

Hi, I'm going to undergo surgery on my 92 civic DX. I am taking a cam out of a D16A6 and placing it in my D15B7. My engine has 175,000 miles on it and i believe it may be time to do some valvebody and springs and what not to it, and Im looking for advisory on what exactly I should do/use (brand names) for this operation. My intentions are to have a fast daily driver with good fuel economy and the ability to put stoplight challengers in their place. I used to specialize in working on V8 engines, but I have put myself into the future and I have noticed that even knowing what I do, I am very behind, so I seek everyones guidance. Thank you.

imo the d15b7 wont really be "fast" unless you put a turbo kit on it and then it would be ok but if you build it for boost you can push about 200-250whp with good tuning. i'm guessing it's a hatch? you can do a d16z6 swap super cheap and add and extra 30hp out of the box.

its a sedan, im sorry i forgot to add that part. no, im sticking with original motor, and i don t want a turbo, ive had bad experiences with them (don t ask) if i was going to do some FI i would use a supercharger, but im stayin all motor. its just supposed to be a quick as possible daily driver, without compromised fuel economy(i drive pretty far) i know the parameters are shitty, but its what i have to work with

Typical response of a muscle-head

What in the world makes you think that a supercharger on a newer import is anymore reliable than a turbo? These aren't the old musclecars....

Given any thought to getting the cam reworked? http://www.exospeed.com offers regrinds on the a6 cam. They have 4 or 5 different stages of grinds. You should also consider a z6 or y8 tranny. That will make a world of difference. Or go with the vti-r tranny which came with an oem lsd. You can find it at http://www.hyperducktuning.com .

Turbos suck, im sticking by it. ya, i worked on V8s for 3 years, its not a bad thing to be a muscle-head. Shoving exhaust fumes back into my motor doesn t even remotely sound healthy. Ive seen a brand new mitsubishi blow out its turbo and pour oil all over the ground, and its a new import. stupid mitsy s ya i had every intention of changing my tranny to an Z6 cuz the gears are longer in my stock tranny, i was wondering if it would bolt in or is there an adapter i need. i have a standard in case that was in question.

first off your not shoving exaust fumes into the combustion chambers , I dont think you know jack about a turbocharger. the exuast spins a turbine in its own housing which has a shaft ran into another housing w/ the compressor turbine which comp. the air drawn into it via the air filter, then blows that compressed clean air into the charge pipe which travels through the intercooler then to the intake manifold. now then how is that feeding exaust fumes into the combustion chambers??? well i never said it went into the combustion chambers, but anyways. it just seems like a risk that doesn t need to be taken, like i said ive seen enuff failures to not want one. i do appreciate having it explained to me, even tho not in the nicest terms. im only upgrading the OEM. well, aside from the cam switch, ive heard the D16Z6s intake manifold is the best at breathing and all D series I.M. are interchangeable. ill start small now. exhaust should probably come after.

you really don't know how a turbo works do you?

You can find a very good high level explanation here :
