what bearings??? the throwout bearing? how hard is it to change?
i changed my tranny fluid and it looked like verrrrrrrrrrrrrry fine shavings , like powder . with a few very tiny specks of metal .

If you shifted from 3rd to 2nd i'd be more worred about my valvetrain and engine block...

But if its a whine its probably bearings inside the tranny that have gone bye bye

Countershaft bearings, mainshaft bearings, input shaft bearing, diff bearing

yeah if your just gonna toss it at least have some fun. but i suggest you find another one, pull it off, rip it open and fix whatever's wrong with it. it will be a good experience, and plus you'll have a spare sitting around in case this happens again. if it's just bearings, that's not that hard to fix... as long as you don't have to disassemble the shafts, it's nothing to fear (or so i'm told... i'll find out here soon).
