has anyone replaced their steering rack?
the time hase come, noisy steering rack. Well I have my hanes manual, but, not sure if this is a job worth getting into. The dealer wants 5 hours at 60 an hour, damn, that could be good mod money. If anyone has done this please reply with relevent info time, pain, and suffering.
well...you asked for it!
I have done it on my 90 ex. It's been a while, so things are a lil hazy... I do remember though that it wasn't the most fun job that i have done on it. If you have the general know-how and adaquate tools, it can be done! I would NEVER pay a place to do it for $60 an hour!!!! OMG! that is nutts. But let me know if u would like to tackle it, i can help you along the way.

Yea I have the hanes and own or have acess to a hell of a lot of tools. I just need to be able to complete it all two days. I do all my work in my parents garage so thats their limit for garage time, and down time from work. what else should be replaced at the same time. Also would a steering rack, or other parts be better from a newer model in the same or later gen accord. I figure they would be more expensive but if it is woth it?
well...that is good to hear. Tools are very necessary! I think it took me like a total of 5 hours...mind you this is not a fun job, just b/c my accord has 200,000mi's and the nuts that are welded inside the chassis that the mount bolts run to broke loose, so i had to kinda chizel in to the crossmember to expose the nut and hold it and run the bolt out.....needless to say, it was not my best day. I didn't use a manual, (i never do) i just pulled it from what i could see i needed to do. once you get loose it comes out the side i believe. I got just another ex rack, same year i think. I didn't want to mess around with swapping and stuff..i just wanted my car back w/o the hassle of wondering if it would work. I got mine from a junk yard for i think a $100. that's it... umm...u could put tie rod ends on it if you wanted, but i can't think of too much right now...i was thinkin about it and it was last summer i did it, so it's a lil fuzzy... oh well, good luck, anythink u need just let me know, i'll stay active on here...lata
