Default anyone experienced with buying a car FAR away

i really mean FAR. im *thinking* about buying a car in california, and having it shipped (towed?) to new jersey where i reside at. i have absolutely no experience at this, and would like as much insight as possible. i might be able to get someone reliable who lives over there to check out the car for me, check for damages, see how it runs, etc. again this is all just speculation, im very wary of the idea of it. 4th gen vtecs are damn impossible!

I just went through this about two months ago. I bought a car in LA and had it shipped. I had the guy send me complete pictures, and I had a friend go and drive the car. I think there are enough people on this board to be able to hook another member up. I also have a great shipping company that I used, and thier prices were the cheapest! Let me know if you need any help, and I will do anything I can.

man! again you come through! i have asked already on a larger prelude forum for poeple in that area. of course help here would be great as well. the car is in San Diego. im still unsure of how/if im going to do this.
so what was your process? im gonna ask this guy a ton of questions through email and phone. have him send me pictures and service records. if all goes well i will have someone check out the car and drive it for me. see if its good. i guess then send him some cash or check overnight to show him im serious. have him ship the car. when i get it and check it out for myself, ill send the rest of the money (or some, if i do payments whatever). then he sends me the title and all. im scared. :\

First get a feel for the guy. Then get all the info you can for the car. If you get the VIN# soon, I will run a carfax for you. Then one of our trusty members, or one of my buddies in San Dog go and check out the car. If everything goes well, I would overnight the money for the car in a cashier's check. Make sure he has to sign for it. Then have him overnight the title. I know there is a great deal of trust involved there, but you will be able to tell the type of person you are dealing with by yours comms with them. After that, contact the shipping company, and it should be there in a couple of weeks. Have you checked the auto trader, www.autotrader.com Just do a search for Preludes nationwide (or any distance) and what price you are willing to pay. Let me know when you need some advice, I will be here to give it.

yeah i hear you. im not at all new to doing transactions through mail. im pretty experienced with ebay and with other for/sale forums (mainly computer/electronics). ive yet to have a problem. however, the largest deal ive done was around $900. yeah i check autotrader daily for listings near me, but none of them are reasonable ($8000 for 156k miles!?). im gonna see if this guy replies to my email. if not tomorrow night im going to call. hopefully i can get the VIN soon. and again, i really appreciate all your help in this. thank you.
