I just installed my jdm dc sport header, carsound cat, 2 1/2 inch straight pipe to stock muffler and it sounds like ****. My mechanic that did my exhaust work recomended 2 1/2 inch stainless steal magnaflow muffler, but I'm not so sure so I ask you guys what do you think of magnaflow mufflers? It's an awsome looking muffler, and I sure would love to get rid of that dirt bike sound I'm geting now. Well I guess I'm asking you guys for your blessing or forever hold your peace.
im gonna put one one next week most prob,
how much they cost in the states, here in Australia $300 AUD for a 2 1/2 inch

Yes...I'm using a Magnaflow can & resonator! Dave at SMSP is a dealer and built my custom exhaust with it. I've been very happen with the system thus far. It has a very deep sound with my B's and CarSound cat. There are a lot of guys on this board that can affirm that. Adding a test-pipe made it a bit more buzzy in tone! I would highly recommend one! Lifetime warranty too!

I've got the same exhaust that RStoR has -- 2.5" stainless material, Carsound cat, Magnaflow resonator and muffler. Not the exhaust to get if you're looking for something quiet
The exhaust went on the car with a JDM 4-1 header at the same time and I'm very happy with mine, too.

I don't really think the exhaust is extremely loud compared to many of the N1 style systems out there. What size resonator did you use? I had to use the 14" version to accomodate my adjustable B-pipe. Dave offers a 22" resonator that should make a huge difference in sound. Just some facts for those that care. I going to make a sound-file when I go to the dyno next time!

I also have the Magnaflow muffler with a 22 inch resonator and 2.5 inch exhaust with testpipe and I am very happy.

I agree that it's not the loudest exhaust out there, but given that loudness is relative, the thing is much noisier compared to my stock GS-R exhaust. Not that I'm complaining -- I really like to new sound -- I guess I was unprepared for just how different it was. -Casey
Hey Chris~ Please don't tempt me like that!
Given how my new header and exhaust have allowed me to hear the VTEC crossover now (and it sounds very "mean" on the hot cam), I can't imagine how something like a pair of spec Bs would sound...

How would a magnaflow straight thrugh muffler sound on a system with 2.5" straight pipe & no resonator? Such as my system with carsound cat and jdm header.
I've got a Magnaflow muffler with a 2.5'' mandrel exhaust system with a test pipe and no resonators (for my track car) and it's definitely on the loud side although I don't think it's as loud as many of the N1 exhausts I hear around Toronto and I assume all those guys are running cats and b-pipes with resonators. All I'm interested in is the best flow characteristics possible and I think my system works pretty well at the moment.
The Magnaflow i went with is a straight-thru design but it's definitely got more sound-deadening effects than a N1 muffler. Painted it flat black too so as to attract as little attention as possible for the times I street drive the car.
All that being said, I'm not sure I'd want this system on my daily driver. At WOT it does sound like an african drum troop is playing in your backseat. It's a very pleasant sound actually, just aggresive and loud when you're hard on the gas.

I believe it will be loud, especially if you get a center/center can. My kits use the center offset can and a straight thru resonator. Don't worry about any losses by using a resonator, the Magnaflow's are straight thru and clean on the inside unlike say the Tanabe's resonator which has many protrusions in the flow path. The resonators are available in 14", 18" and 22" lengths. Check them out under the universal section of http://www.magnaflow.com under the 4" round section.
BTW, If you were shown a picture of a muffler with the tip included it was probably a 2-1/4" inlet/outlet.

The main company is Car Sound Exhaust System, Inc. which makes cats and exhaust systems (Magnaflow). They are in CA.
I don't know about Indvidia.

Hey Ddddave --
What kind of paint did you use on the exhaust??
did you prep it?
Got any pics?
thanks,

On RStoR's car we clean it off with brake cleaner spray and shot it with hi temp stove flat black paint. Drop him a note to see how it's holding up. I don't think I offer a bolt on kit in mild steel for this very reason. Most likely it will only be in stainless steel.
If you are going to run the Cat and maybe a resonator, you should be happy with it. I used to have a Magnaflow muffler w/ test pipe, no resonator and 2.5" straight to the muffler. Let me tell you it was loud and very buzzy. If you want something like that, then that's the way to go.

Here's my G2 teg with 2-1/4" piping, magnaflow street series muffler, and resonator. 3days old and it's awsome.

Add a resonator to your system is it will get rid of the buzzing noises.
However, since you got a full 2.5" exhaust system, you should get a 2.5" exhaust. Just get any 2.5" muffler the *looks* good to you since you got all the piping why spend a lot of cash just on a muffler.
Any manufacturer that claims their muffler makes more HP than any other similar sized muffler is full of **** or comparing their muffler to baffled to death non-performance mufflers.
