some wierd clutch shit today
ok so i got off work today and didnt wanna drive straight home because my car doesnt warm up all the way when i do that. i took it onto lawrence expressway and cruised in 4th to warm it up. when it got warm i turned around and floored it. 1st gear whent great, i took it to 6500 being conservative. putting it into 2nd was a little tough but i didnt pay too much attention cuz my car does wierd **** sometimes. when i went to put it into 3rd my clutch pedal suddenly lost a lot of pressure but still popped back up. 3rd also ground a little. this i when i got nervous so i let off the gas and pulled into the slow lane. i put it into 4th but only by rev matching. my clutch wouldnt pop back up now. i thought i snapped my cable. well i got lucky on a series of green lights and a well placed parking lot with very little cars. when i went to check the damage all i saw was a very loose clutch cable. being the problem solving genius i am. i tightened it. i really had to tighten it a lot. it went from 1/4 of thread above the nut to about 2 inches. after i tightened it the car made it home alright and the clutch felt a lot smoother. wtf is going on. is this just a case of something popping into place? before my clutch felt stiff and it squeaked. now it feels like my stock one did.
I had the exact same thing happen to my hatch over on elcamino n saratoga. I just tightened it and it was fine, I eventually pulled the clutch but i couldnt figure out why it suddenly got that extra inch or 2 of slack. I did notice that the pilot bearing return spring was broken on one side but I wasnt sure how that would have caused this. But my car still runs good with no problems since.
Sometimes the adjuster sleeve(being all plastic) slides down the threaded part on the cable. It's happened to me before. It only happened once because I swore if it happened again I'd replace the cable all together. It never did it again. Go figure.
