no power steering, torn belt
hey, my first post. i have a 90 integra and a 96 prelude (i post on absoluteprelude.com), my integra is out of work right now because one day while driving it the power steering went out, i checked out what was wrong, i had power steering fluid, but i looked down farther in the engien bay and what do you know? a scrap of torn up, worn out belt laying somewhere it didnt belong.
me, not knowing anything about cars didnt know what belt was torn, i checked around the bay and found a pulley to the right of the engine block that had the remains of the belt wrapped around it...so im assuming thats where it went...
there is another, bigger belt by where this belt went, so it wasnt that one...
anyone know what belt this is? right side of the engine block, little below the valve cover, theres a bigger pulley nearest to where your looking (if your facing the engine) and then a smaller pulley farther back where the other end of the belt went...
i sound retarded but i need some help haha
anyone have a engine bay diagram for a 90 integra LS that could show me what belt i tore and where i can get a replacement? would i be able to do this myself or take it to a shop?
thanks

well ive got no a/c in the car, never had one, timing belt would make it a big problem and probably not run right? also, its not that thick of a belt, maybe a quarter inch in diameter, isnt hte timing belt thicker?
I dont get it...
your power steering stopped working, and you notice a torn belt in the engine bay that flew off a pulley...
Chances are, without seeing a picture, we can take a guess its the PS belt. Or am I reading this wrong?

Yeah, sounds like you broke the power steering belt. The power steering pump is near the front of the car, close to the top of the motor. It has 2 hoses coming from it and a bronze-color looking pulley. The belt goes from that pulley to the crank pulley. It really isn't too hard to replace, and shops shouldn't charge too much to replace it. Hope that helps.

yea im pretty sure its a power steering belt, i just wasnt positive because i dont know what a power steering belt is...but i figured, power steering goes out, broken belt...what else could that mean? just thought ide ask though.
Jeez, go to the store and buy a power steering belt for your car. It just slips on, you'll have to move the power steering pump (there is a wingnut and 2 10mm bolts). You can drive forever w/o PS, its not bad for your car.

duh, its the ps belt? anyone with a brain should figure this out. i know that newgsrdriver has one.
the other belt you are talking about is most likely the acc belt. like alternator and AC, but you dont have
that. so its the alternator belt. timing belt is not visible because it is covered.
if there is no belt wraped around the PS pully then of course the ps belt is missing. its simple as 123.
you dont have to be a rocket scientist to figure that out, come on.
