sound system for an EG
i think this may be the wrong forum.. so mods feel free to move this. first of all, i have a '95 si hatch.. i'm looking into replacing my front/rear speakers. i was wondering what's the biggest speakers i can fit in the front/rear. also, what would be some good speakers? i want it to sound clean and mean! oh btw, i already have a 4-channel 800watt amp, a 2-channel 1200watt amp bridged to my jl w3 sub.. all i need are new speakers! i don't know much about audio..
*EDIT*
ok, let me rephrase the question. i drive a '95 si hatch.. i want to replace all the speakers in the car. what do you all suggest i get? (brands, models, etc) oh yeah, the stock sizes are 6 1/2 in the front and 5 1/4 in the rear, but i can fit 6 1/2 in the rear.

i have a 97 ex coupe, the front stock speakers are 6.5's and the rears are 6x9
i stayed with those sizes because i didn't want to cut into the door panel or rear pannel of my car. i used sony speakers through out but they're are so much better available. gie me a day or so and i can figure out what the best speakers are. the maximum size you can put it... well i have no clue and dpends on what you want to do to your door panels i guess.

just take out ur speakers and measure them (give or take about 1 inch cuz u can always hacksaw away sum metal)dont know wut it is in a 95, but i have a 98 and i squeezed in 6.5" by 6.5" in the front w/ sum cutting and room 2 go and 6.5" by 9" in the back w/ no cutting. with the mounting height and a nice tweeter sticking out i wuldnt go 2 much bigger than ur factory speakers in terms of depth. dynomat ur car 2 cuz that sounds like a badass amp/sub setup u got goin there.

thanks for the tip! hmm.. would it be better to go 3 way all around or just in the front or back? i've seen people put 2 ways in the front and 3 ways in the back in a hatch.
i dont know how many people have heard of digital audio stuff. but i hve personally heard their 6 1/2's running from an amp, and 6X9's running from an amp. that crap was SO loud and SO clean/clear.... simply amazing. for the most clarity i would buy a nice component set for the front, and same brand 3 way ( stock size) for the rear. i believe audiobahn makes digital audio.. my GF has one 12" sub (DA) and their second from smallest amp pushing it... not even turned up all the way it hits hard enough in her sedan(seat up) that you cant breath. very quality stuff.
i wouldnt waste my $ on pioneer...too comercialized.alpine is nice, infinity, kenwood component sets are nice, polk is pretty good. JL audio are very nice but $$$.. read around the car audio forum.

I've done eg's at work before (installing mobile electronics), and If I'm not mistaken, they come with 5 1/4's from the factory, but if you remove the plastic basket they're held in, 6 1/2's go in fine w/o cutting. I would recommend using 6 1/2's all around, with that 4 channel amp you said you had. Get some quality ones, look at web reviews or ask around for specific models.. Good luck
MB Quart Reference Series. I have them in front and back in my EG now - no sub needed. They are very nice speakers, and can be had for a little more than $300. There are many online stores that carry them, just make sure they are liscensed to sell them.
I run these from a stock Acura deck BTW.

Focals are the best midrange speaker on the market next to the Image Dynamics. Look to do a compression horn setup or if you want staging look to do a kick panel setup. I work at a place that sells the Focal product and its the best. I used to have a competition stereo in my car so I have tried MANY combinations. If you are looking to do a 2 or 3 way look at Boston Acoustics speakers. Or if you are going to do the separates route look Focal, Image Dynamics, and Boston also. Personally I WOULDN'T put 2 ways in my car. My suggestion.
With a total of $278 you can have a set of 5 1/4" and 6 1/2" MB Quart speakers here.
So technically, it's in your budget.
P.S. Just don't buy the Discus series...no better than Pioneer's crap IMO.
