anyone rebuild thier DOHC ZC?
a friend has one that has/had an oil starvation problem, and went through two sets of rod bearings....we put his single cam motor back in to run around, but we are thinking about a rebuild, unless the cyl. walls are totally scarred, or we have a lot of machine work to do
anyone done it? any recommendations other than buying a new one?
thanks in advance, and i did search, but the search results are acting strangely

Yup I tried searching for **** earlier and nothing came up so there is something up with it.
On the ZC maybe check your valve seals and pistons rings maybe that is why its consuming oil. Piston ring go for about $60 for the set seals are like a $1 each. For the walls you can get a honing tool kit for $10-30 range.

I rebuilt mine last winter. I bought a complete gasket set for an 89 Teg motor and it all fit fine. All the rod and main bearings and seals are from Honda and they are for a 90 D16a6 motor, they also fit just fine. I used Wisco pistons and rings with Eagle rods. Motor runs great.
we didnt do the oil pump right away
since the guy we bought the motor from was "straight up" as far as everyone knew or said...oh well, we got a deal on the motor, and learned a lesson. we didnt spin the first set of bearings, they were already toast, but since my friend was crunched for time, we just slapped it in, and firec it up...2min later, its knocking.....got new bearings.....same stuff...and the car has been sitting since....easily a month, so now we are going to tear into it, and redo the ****

i also had mine rebuilt, only advise i can give is change everything internally, bearings, seals, oil pump, you dont want to pull the engine again because you got cheap and didnt change a $10 part, if you plan on boosting in the future you might want to think about rods and pistons, zc rods are good to about 200hp

Everthing for the lower end(rings, bearings, seals) was for a D16a6 motor. All the parts for the head(valve cover gasket, valveseals, head gasket) were for a 89 teg motor or D16a1. Remember, when you rebuild a Honda motor, all the rod caps, main caps, crank and the block have numbers or letters stamped on them. You have to look at a chart to see what color bearings you need for your motor. What this is doing is "bluprinting" your motor. No matter what crank or block you use you will always have the perfect size bearing. When I rebuilt my motor I used a crank from 1 motor and a block I got from a buddy. You may end up using 2 or 3 different color bearings on your motor. Be sure to look at a Helms manual or check with your local Honda dealer to be sure you find all the right markings so you can order the right color bearings.
ya sounds like what we did the first time, with the letters on the rod and caps, as well as the numbers on them and the crank.....we used two different colors...on the dohc zc, i noticed that the rod and cap for number one cylinder are different than the rest, and the same thing on another zc that a guy we know has...same codes, and im told that number one is really bad about spinning rod bearings....thanks for the info
