Default What ECU's are you guys using with your JDM B16a swaps?

I'm just wondering what ecu's you guys are using with your JDM B16a motor swaps. I have a '90 Honda Crx running OBD0 and think my ECU is the wrong one. I have a PR4-OBD0 ECU right now!!

I ran a pw0 at first then switched to a pr3. You definately want to run either of those..not a pr4.

The pr4 is the 90-91 Intrgra non vtec B18A ecu and won't provide any actvation point for the vtec soliniod.

Mine kicks into Vtec but it seems to me that it does sometimes and then sometimes it doesn't. I don't know how the guy that did my swap got it to work but that's why I want to just get an ECU that is for Vtec. I talked to a guy today and he's got a Pr3 chipped with the PYR program for sale for $200, is that a good price or not?

Ran a Pw0, then a Pr3, and now I'm running a home-chipped Pw0 with a Spoon program.

Get either a Pw0 or a Pr3.

What's the difference between the Spoon/Mugen chips and the PYR chips? I know that the PYR vtec is 5200 and redline is 8800, so what are the vtec and redline on the Spoon/Mugen ones?

"spoon" "mugen" and other ebay chips are pure crap.

If you dont have a chip thats tuned specifically for your mods and engine, then you are probably better off advancing your timing all the way and raising fuel pressure a little bit, which is the equilvelant of those chips ( i realize the chip wouldn't raise fuel pressure, but almost all of those chips just advance the timing like crazy and raise the injectors pulse width duration)

So basically your saying that the ebay stuff is for the ricers who go for the name. That's what I thought so I'll just go with the one from my local shop for the $200 then.

By "stock" motor what do you mean because I have i/h/e, 75 shot of nitrous. So should I just get a regular ECU or get a chipped one since I'll be getting my vavletrain done this summer.

if youre going to use this ecu in an ef, you will have to swap everything to obd1 and run a obd0-obd1 jumper harness!

My swap came with a pwo originally, sent it to katman for chipping...he didnt have the program I wanted available for the pwo..so he traded me the pwo for a pr3. Sent me back a chipped pr3. No real functional or performance reason for switching.

So you would agree that pr3 is easier to program then pw0 also. Should I chip it or not?
