Royal Purple 5w30, but use Mobil1 5w30 when I don't have the $$ for Royal Purple. Both great oils, but Royal Purple makes the car feel so much smoother than Mobil1.
Castrol Syntec (%100 synthetic) 5w-30.
I've seen comparison charts showing all the leading synthetic motor oils. Amsoil is the best, and I've used it before. Pretty much any %100 synthetic motor oil will provide excellent protection, but the Castrol Syntec seemed to be the best bang for your buck according to Amsoil's charts.

Castrol GTX 5W-30 or 10W-30.
I don't believe in using synthetic oil, as long as you're changing it every 3000 miles. I change my oil regularly every 2500-3500 miles, and it comes out rather clean - so I feel that synthetic would just be pissing money away with such a short change interval. Especially with Mobil 1, since it is thinner than most other oils and thus tends to disappear more quickly in between change intervals than other oils; not to mention it is far more expensive than conventional oil, as most systhetics are.
It is generally accepted that the best engine oil from a protection standpoint is AMSOIL, but again I personally don't feel it is worth the money as long as you change your oil frequently.

Every 3-4 min here.

Most likely the castrol 100% synthetic you think you're using isn't really a synthetic.

I'm currently running 15-40 castrol non-synth and will switch back to 20-50 when it gets warm again. I'd run mobil drive clean if I could find it in heavier weights.
