trouble puting a 90 crx hf tranny into a 91 crx si
for some reason the tranny wont go all the way on, i get it so close there is only about one inch from the tranny to the block that it needs to go in. but it wont go in!? does the d15 tranny not work on a d16?i dont understand why it doesnt work. please i need some help ASAP!
Its been a while, but I think the tranny and the engine have little dowel pins(or whatever they're called). Since your doing a tranny swap, make sure they fit and don't run into another in the same spot.
The HF tranny is slow. It's okay for highway driving and some extra gas mileage, but if you like performance, then your taking a huge hit. The difference is like night and day. Trust me, I know.

you might not have the clutch disc lined up properly... or you might have a guide stud (or whatever its called) on the bell housing and the engine. just look it over and see if thats the problem... if not just line it up as good as you can.. and then start a couple bolts and start tightening them... it'll end up lining up on its own. just make sure it doesnt take too much force to tighten the bolts. theres my two cents

Look everyone, Im sure he is aware of what he is doing, so just try and help answerer his question.
I need to know the year of each part you are working with here. IE. clutch plate, flywheel, tranny, PP, etc. The spline count was different on the 88 trannies.

for your info the hf tranny is bad a$$ if you got the power to back it up. The gearing is alot like that of an S2000 and lets put it this way I was woopin up on GSR's left and right with a Z6 in my hf with just intake so you guys need to think twice before talkin crap.
S2000 gear ratio
1st gear 3.133
2nd gear 2.045
3rd gear 1.481
4th gear 1.161
5th gear 0.971
6th gear 0.811
Reverse 2.800
Final Drive Ratio 4.1
Crx HF gear ratio
1st 3.250
2nd 1.650
3rd 1.033
4th 0.823
5th 0.694
Reverse 3.153
Final 2.954/3.250
Oh yeah, extremely close....except for the final drive and the sixth gear. Yet, that shouldn't make that much of a difference, right?

Yes, that is why he is asking the question re: application

the main shaft will go past the clutch but it wont go any further. The tranny and side of the block come about 1 inch apart, but it wont go any closter, i know about the tranny gear ratios. This is only so i can get the car driving instead of having it in the driveway not moving at all.

Do you actually believe that and what was you smokin when you wrote it. Its even steeper geared than the DX trans and that one bit azz because of the long gears.

still can be misalighned splines and are you 100% sure you don't have a dowel pin in the block from old trans and the new trans having the same dowel pin in the same hole? Are you certain the clutch and trans spline counts match up?<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by mp3albums2k2 »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I left the clutch on the side of the block, the only thing i moved was the tranny</TD></TR></TABLE>
I have to say, if your making 300 WHP, than HF gearing would be nice to have.
Now for the comment about his post count and his question. WTF does it matter weather this is his fifth or five thousandth post, just because he JUST got on HT doesn't mean he knows nothing about the tranny. The guy asked a simple question and if you cant answer, than leave to thread.
I still need to know the years of every part your using.

thanks,
i'm putting a 90 crx hf tranny on a 91 crx si engine. lol yea, i found this tranny for 5$ and all i need to do is make it work so the car is DRIVABLE, not raceable. The gear ratio doesnt really matter to me, its just a driver for a friend of mine.

i had this problem with my hatch, i got so pissed that the tranny wouldn't line up correctly that i punched my fender and dented it up (/me cries)
anyways, what i did was put the input shaft in as far as i could get it, put the tranny bolts in, tightened them down a tiny bit so they would stay, then i got underneath and kicked the side of the tranny case and it popped right in.
Im thinking its a problem with the pilot bearing or possibly the end of the input shaft on the new tranny has a burr or something not allowing it slide smoothy into the pilot bearing.. just keep muscling it, it will go in.
