Default Bought 95 GSR with JRSC...Need Advice

Well about 3 weeks ago I purchased a 95 GSR 4door with 106k bearing a JRSC @6psi. The car has Honadata(basic map) with Rc 450 injectors. The car passed with flying colors when the compression test was done. The car is mechanically sound however need some pointers.
1. what kind of prenetative maintaninace can I do to assure my car will not blow up one day?
2. what the best way to cure wheel hop? Sometime I have a heavy foot in 1st and its hard to gain traction.
Thanks for you help....

Traction in 1st gear is nonexistent with the charger...in fact, I had trouble getting traction down low all over the place due to instant boost...its really difficult to drive IMO. I would get some motor mount inserts and sticky tires and go from there. Traction bars are an option as well, although I have no firsthand experience with them. I would say motor mounts, sticky tires and the right throttle modulation and you should be a lot better off.

As for preventative maintenance, get it tuned. If youre running the basemap, youve most likely got a lot of room for improvement. I wouldnt drive too long on that map, especially hard driving.

Yeah, I will start out with the tires and go from there...

As far as the base map. Will I need to have it reprogrammed? Or will I have to get another Hondata chip? Why is it bad to run the base map with my setup? Sorry for the ignorance...I am a Noob Thanks

If you take it to a Hondata dealer or somebody with the software/hardware to tune it, they'll just rewrite the program on the chip that's already in there.

It's bad to run on a start-up map b/c they aren't optimized yet. If you don't know where the programming stands, then you shouldn't drive it hard b/c that will only emphasize the damage done.

Or even better get slicks. Other than that he's got the right idea. I'm just saying 6psi isn't much and if you get the car some nice quality rubber than traction IS possible.

to save some dyno time you could probably find a few maps to get an idea of what range of tuning to start with. you can probably find a map and print it and take it to your tuner so a better idea is had on where to start.

I just found out that I am running the s100/b with boost and it was tuned on another GSR but it was the same year and they had the same exact mods. This bring up another question.

If I change my exhaust from the stock type R exhuast to a 2.5 " hi-flow cat and exhaust, would I have to have it reflashed?

Same year with the same mods is NOT the same car. Who's to say the other car wasn't beat to **** and was WAY out of tune, while yours is pretty efficient right now. Get the hondata tuned with a wideband, then if you want to see how much you're making, go find a dyno.

As for prevenitive maintenance, just be sure to change the oil often and check it at every fill-up (you'll get used to it) and perform your routine maintenance BEFORE you get it tuned so its in its optimum state. Obviously, use the highest octane you can find and just don't beat the car to death.

Enjoy your new car, sounds like its going to be a blast when its tuned up right.

Definitely....you need to get it tuned for your specific application.

As for traction...sure, slicks would make a difference at the track. Even with drag radials...I still dont foresee 1st gear being as easy as mashing the throttle and getting traction. You will have to modulate the throttle...1st gear WOT JRSC just isnt meant to hook without slicks. At least one making decent power.

Thanks guys for your help..
I will take it easy until I can get it tuned. How much will it cost to have it tuned? I will probably take it to RPM racing (In NYC) to have them look at it. I just want to be safe... Thanks again

Will I have to retune it if I change my exhaust system? I am thinking most likely..
Thanks

most tuners charge about 60-70 per hour....id say give them two hours to tune the hell out of it (probably wont be that long with a wideband)

There's a guy on here Gruvytune (I think that's him) or something like that that tunes Hondatas and such in NY or PA. He's the man in this area. Search around and I'm sure you'll be impressed with his tuning.

get some traction bars for the wheelhop. you might also want to make sure that you have a good set of springs and shocks as well. just make sure you baby your car and maintain tuning... best bet to keep your car running right. dont boost too much.

Thanks for the reply. I am confident I can do a proper job tuning the car. I have extensive experience in Hondata and wideband street tuning as well as fine tuning on the dyno.

I PM'd the owner back with info.

Yes I bought it from 95JABRONIGSR. He was the original owner and the car is in really good condition considering the year and milage.
