thats what ive heard...
think of a SBC with no harmonic damper...even thought the hondas dont have this the pulley and any associated rubber in the pulley are in balance with the corresponding crankshaft (ie. d16a6 crank pulley with a6 crank). at least this is the way i think about it, i may be totally wrong though. from the pics of bearings ive seen id stay away from the pulleys. an extra 3-5hp isnt worth going 10k miles between engine rebuilds!

this is one of those topics where everyone has an opinion, but nobody knows anything.
i'm one of them, of course... i don't see how an aluminum pulley could hurt anything, but i have zero experience with them. in order for someone to make an informed decision, they would have to rip apart several engine blocks and compare the innards after 10s of thousands of miles. maybe an engineer from a racing team would have that kind of experience.
search and you'll find a lot of stuff, including some articles from reputable sources, but i don't think there's enough out there for anything to be conclusive.

I am currently running a B17A with the Unorthodox Racing single belt race aluminum pulley and have zero problems or complaints regarding it. What i know for sure is that it weighs practically nothing COMPARED to the stock B series one. I have also heard the rumor about some pulleys causing bearing failure, but no concrete info/proof has been shown to me. UR is a very reputable company and if ppl were experiencing this problem, then UR would HAVE TO address it and im sure it would be all over the net.
Is a honda motor internally balanced or externally balanced?
If internally balanced, then there is no way it can hurt it... (well shouldnt hurt it)
If it is externally ballanced it will detroy it within the first few miles...
On the contrary, if you say a light weight pulley is bad, what about a lighter flywheel.. isnt it the same thing???
