Default Market Value of 2000 with 26k miles - might become another traitor

Well, I've had my ITR for almost four years now and made the mistake of dropping by a Mitisubshi dealership yesterday to ogle at the 10 or so Evo VIIIs on their lot. I think it might be time to sell.

Not sure what my car is worth - prices seem to be all over the place.

It is a yellow 2000 with 26k miles. Following are mods:

. ATS 4.929 final drive/Comptech aluminum flywheel/ACT MaXX Xtreme pressure place/Kush-Lok Clutch

. Mugen Lowdowns/26mm front and rear anti-roll bars with upgraded end-links/16" MF-10s with 215/45/16 Azenis with 80% tread left/shift linkage bushings.

. Black/yellow Momo cup GT seats with Mugen sliders.

. Comptech intake/filter/header/high flow cat/exhaust/silencer/stainless steel brake lines.

. Spoon front and rear lower braces.

. JDM rear strut tower braces/center console/pedal covers/shift boot.

Unless I find a buyer willing to pay a premium, I am probably going to sell all the aftermarket parts and swap back stock parts because I am not sure they will add much (if anything) to the price.

Any idea of what I should ask? I am in the SF Bay area.

Swap out all the parts and bring it back to stock. Modded cars make people think they've been beaten on (and in many cases it's true). IF and only IF the car is in good shape (clear title, runs strong, no dents or large scratches)...........

16-17 w/ mods

17-18.5- stock

It all depends on how well maintained the car is. Good luck and just remember that EVO's aren't all their cracked up to be

I'd say 20k stock.

That's a good starting point, but you'll NEVER get 20K. You have to be realistic.

ask the dealer what they would give you on a trade in, and raise your price 2-3K if you are gonna sell it privately. I plan to ask a dealer how much they would give me on a trade in tomorrow.

As far as having a modded R and making people think you beat on it, I dont know too many R owners that DONT beat on them one way or another.

What are you basing this assertion on? You listed $16k as a possible price, which makes me wonder how familiar you really are with the market. I don't think I have every seen a 2000+ ITR with less than 30k miles for close to $16k. Hell, 1997s sell for close to that in California. Perhaps the market is different in NH.

It is hard to tell what a realistic asking price would be - for example, here are lots of $25kish ITRs in autotrader, but I often wonder if these ever sell.

$18k feels realistic to me (stock) and $20k a little high, but $23k-$25k cars are common on Autotrader. I guess I would really like to hear from California users who have bought or sold recently to get a proper feel.

I've bought two ITR's in the last 12 months and if it's in great shape I'd say you can get about $17,500-$18,500 moded or not. Every once in a while they go for a little more of a premium if you get the buyer to fall in love with it. It'll be tough finding a buy that doesn't mind the fact that the car has been beat on. I'd be interested in your Icebox, header, cat and exhaust if you part it out. Last note, personally I think it would be a helluva lot easier to sell any R totally stock if possible, just be honest with the car's history to prospective buyers.

$20k is definitely optimistic. I sold my '00 with 26k miles for that in 2002. Mostly stock - JDM header was the only mod.

Considering I studied the market for 2+ years before I purchased my R I quite aware of what an ITR is worth. Anyone who's stupid enough to list a used R for 23K-25K should be shot. A car that retailed at 24K 4 years ago is not worth 23K-25K in any respect (Unless it's in flawless condition w/ less than 5,000 miles). You can never go by what a dealership asks because they jack their prices up by thousands. End of story, if you're realistic about selling your car price it between 17K and 19K. Anything 20K or above for a car w/ 30,000 is something to laugh at.

I got my 98 for 15,500, stock with HID's. 36,000 miles in southern california. I dunno if this would help you out. The guy a bought it from was asking 17,500. I would say ask twenty, take no less than 18,000. Just my opinion

My perspective is that you should ask for at least 20K. Just think about it... if you decided to trade your car in for the Mitsu, the dealer might give you $14-$16K for your car stock, then the next day put it on the lot for $22-$24K. And I bet it wouldn't sit for more than a day. In your/our case, I think exclusivity may help you.
Lastly, if you don't want the hassle of bringing your car back to stock, how about showing it in the Dupont Registry?
Just my thoughts on the matter.....

18K for stock. Add up the rest of the parts for sale, 20~21k is not impossible.

Well I just bought my ITR:
2001 Blk-pretty much Stock w/ Azenis,Rear ITR strut bar,Jdm Fog light switch(w/ fog lights),Mugen Pedals & Lugs,OEM Body kit w/ only 23k miles on it for $18k.That was a good deal in my book.
Saw others on Autotrader w/ 40-50k miles asking about the same if not more(2000 & 2001's).

Yes,.I drove 2 EVO's both modded and it is insane!!!!!
I really wanted 1 but w/ a turbo car I would have it sucking gas and kickin *** w/ a $460 car payment & probably never pay the Bills!

Good luck!
There is a dealer in my old town that has a 2000 PY ITR and they are selling it for $24k--you believe that ****! Its got 50k on it!!!
But dealers wil still give you alot for them! Acura only!

first of all, autotrader is ridiculous. i dont know a single person that has purchased a car from there. i might look in the diablo dealer magazine to see what some prices are. i have purchased a few cars through their ads...but they are also alittle inflated. but get real, people posting 20k are out of their fugging mind. im in N. cali and there is no way in hell you are going to get 20k for the car. it is not made of gold....nor is it lined with it. if you look around in cali, north cali it goes for around 16-17K at best. i have seen 00" go for 15K with around the same mileage give or take a couple of thousand.

i also agree that you should sell most if not all of the your aftermarket parts to get a better price. people will not pay for that stuff. if you are serious. anyway good luck, and let me know via PM if you are serious of selling. i know a few people that are looking but they are not idiots so dont even think of 20g's. maybe at most 16.5K. anway good luck, hope you sell the car and get the evo. i have test driven the car and it is truly badd ***.

It sounds like his car is in good shape. If I was looking for an R, this is the one I'd want. $18k (stock) sounds good.

Sold my black 2000 R in August of last year with 31k miles for $20k - out of autotrader. First person that looked at it bought it.

Depends on where you are, but I'd start at 20k and work down from there

Thanks for all the feedback. After stripping off as many parts as I can, I think I will try for $20k and work from there.
