Default JRSC for 94-00 gsr's Safe boost Pressure opinions?

hey what's up,
I have been researching jrsc's & almost every different type of setup you can do with them to have a reliable engine & get some decent HP out of them at a reasionable price & everyone has a different answer. I have seen people talk about 12lb. pully with just fuel pump & plugs & say they run fine on it all day long too other that are scared to go up to 8lb.'s with out doing fuel management, headgasket, cams....What do you think the most safe way to reach 235WHP in a gsr would be? This is what I have so far: JRSC, JR Fuel Pump, Kamikaze headers, AEM CAI & AEM short ram, Boost guage. Trying to figure out what else I should get for my setup before I start installing. Oh & I don't need anyone telling me too sell it & go turbo because I have looked into that also, got a ride in turbo car from inline pro & thats not the path for me altho they are crazy : ) I am also staying with my stock exhaust & ok with loosing some HP cuz of that. I am tired of having to deal with cops & I like the sleeper approach.

I used to have the JR supercharger running the 8psi pulley. I was running on stock injectors, and ran fine. For the horse power #'s your asking for I would do some headwork on the motor. Springs, retainers, p&p. Then hondata, 440 injectors and your set. Extend the redline to 9000 and your car will be running pretty sweet in my opinion. I've done it!

Unless you want to upgrade the fueling with bigger injectors and a tuneable fuel management you'd be better off sticking with the stock 6psi.

With the basic 5to1 jrsc fmu, and nothing else the extra psi from a boost upgrade would probably: run lean on the bottom-end and over fuel on the top-end and negate any benefit of the extra psi.

I bet you could reach your goal with:

A) 9-10psi + 310 injectors + Cartech Fmu (something tunable)+ good tuning. (Maybe a SAFC to fine-tune the fuel)

B) 8psi + 440 injectors + Standalone + good tuning.

Either way you'd probably need a better exhaust.

My opinion.

thanks for suggestions! P&P was was something that I havn't thought about yet but that coudl be nice. I forgot to mention that it also came with a Vortech FMU & 10lb. pully which I might or might not use.

If I did exhaust it would have to be something quiet like a twin pass but not sure yet if I want to throw down for one. If I find a used mugen for like $700 probably would go for it. Staying close to the stock sound is a big thing for me in this setup & I know it's going to be hard with the HP I want out of it.

I have done a lot of work with the JRSC .
I have found head work to be the last thing to gain power, I have had heads from a couple of good head porters and seen very little.
For cheap 'ish' parts: The header has been the biggest gain, The Kamakazi is very good all round, 2.5" exhaust is about you need, I have a 2.5" mugen twin loop .
With an upgraded fuel pump you can run 8# with the fmu and you'll be fine( I would get the Walboro GSS342).

Posting for ThEsOcK:

ahhh this is the 3rd time I typed this & it got erased for one reasion or other....anyways

1. I'm supercharging not turbo I alreayd passed that step.
2. CRVRX What type of HP gains did you see when you added the Mugen to your setup?
3. Was the mugen louder/quieter/same then the stock gsr sound? I have heard mixed reviews.
4. Why don't you feel heat is an issue with 8# pully on just wiht just fuel pump & fmu? why not headgasket, hondata/afc or liquid intercooler?

it is attainable.

i would seriously look into kteller's on this site for a 2.5" exhaust system. i have an exhaust in 2.5" from him. looks like stock. just buy the es oval. you will see the most gains from a 2.5" all the way through, especially at the top end. another cheap mod that may help is to wrap the intake in some kind of wrap to keep hot engine air at bay.

your best gains will be from some kind of stand alone. i have a hondata installed with 440 rc's and after tuning i gained about 20 whp. that's just one part of it. everying is smooth now. the hesitation going from vacumn to boost and back is all but gone.

allthough a turbo car will have more power, it's nonetheless a great introduction into the world of force induction. tuning is key when your working with a non intercooled application but power can be had especially when it all comes on at about 2k rpms. sure people will say that your tires will just go up in smoke but it just takes practice learning how to launch a jrsc car. at 10psi your looking at about 230-240whp and about 170-180tq which is enough for low 13's in a gsr. it's a great college car.

About a year, and half ago. When I still had JR supercharger I made 230 hp to the wheels, and I believe 159 torque on 8 psi. I was running an injen intake, DC header, high flow cat, Greddy Evo Exhaust, stock injectors, chipped P28 ecu with a redline at 9,000, P&P head, and cams. I'd post my dyno sheet, but I don't know how to do it... It was on a B16a2

alright I made a decision & threw down on it. Every shop & person I talked to had a different setup with the JRSC that they were confident worked safe & well so I decided to pick the setup that I agreed with most & sounded the best for me. I think that every setup I heard about must have been 6-7 different ways would work fine, I just had to decide how I was going to do it.

JRSC 10lb. pully, headgasket that brings me to 9:1 compression, Vortech FMU, V-AFC, intake manifold hondata gasket, cold plugs, 160' thermostat, JR FP, BTC(might put on), Kamikaze headers, AEM intake(have CAI & Short at house havn't decided), Boost guage, Greddy A/F guage & TUNING. I don't think I left anything off but it's possible : ) I'll let you know how it goes.
