Default 3" Intake on the ITR

This post is a LITTLE off topic but not too bad...(and yes I searched)

What are the potential gains usuing a 3"intake(like the AEM) on the ITR. If I remember right the ITR has a stock throttle body of 62mm=2.44". I've recently upgraded to a 62mm TB and new intake manifold(62mm inlet) on my engine(D16Z6) and was wondering if I could find gains from a 3" intake. I'm not looking to run a CAI, but a 3 inch "short ram".

Any thoughts or opnions would be good. Thanks.

For a short ram intake and on that engine, i doubt you will see any gains at best. Short ram intakes alone dont really make any more hp, just increase throttle response.

the gain from intake come 90 percent just by doing away w/ the restrictive air box and adding a free flow cone filter, piping makes extreme minimal difference. just my 2 cents.

Bling?

Most of them are just filters on a stick.

If you wanna make hp dont even bother with different intakes, or different intake tubing. Its not worth the hassle or money.

Talk about trolling....asking an intake question is almost the worst thing you can do...

Why?

Although it's a topic easy to search and extensively covered in this forum, there's still room to discuss some tech info.

Theory...
Maybe to improve throttle responce. More air is in the tube already filtered so it there ready to go.
Maybe so they can put a bigger filter on which would improve power.

Then again, maybe 100% of AEMs power is from the filter and the filters location(cold air).

Thats my opinion of all mods for the ITR.

Jond, not totally agree with that comment. I'm a firm believer that a good header and exhaust is a worthing mod for the ITR.

arent AEM short ram intakes for ITR's 3" in diameter? i want to buy one (to go with my skunk2 intake manifold) but someone told me they looked in an AEM cataloge and it says they are 2.75". i could swear though that for gsr's the aem short ram is 2.5", and for the type-r it's 3".

I agree the header is the most bang for the buck, but with the exception of the DC, I think you're still paying too much money per whp.

With the DC you're paying around $40/whp which is decent. Many of the other headers you're paying over $100/whp which I think is rediculous. Add to that the headache of the low quality 2.5'' cats, and I dont think its worth the effort.
