Toda Spec B for ITR
I have a B18C5 ITR, stock internal, planning on dropping Spec B into my car. From what I heard all i need is the toda valve springs, and that the ITR retainers are good enough, any feedback about the retainers would be greatly appreciated.
I used stock retainers and Toda springs. Don't go with the outer ITR/inner Portflow...lotsa wear on the retainer. plenty of reports of galled ti retainers (even portflow's) with B's over time (i.e. within 1-1.5 years of 9000+ rpm use)
make sure you use the method described here using the cam gears advanced and follow the Helm's method of timing belt install to ensure you take up the slack properly.
make sure you install the intake cam with the distributor first removed and then slide the distributor properly onto the intake cam's notch.: several reports of chipped intake cam's notch due to improperly sliding the cam onto the fixed distributor.
degree the cams if you can.
stronger timing belt recommended (some people say don't need them but from personal experience, the cost is good insurance against bent valves or worse: too many shredded inner teeth reports with stock belt to be blamed on improper install).
ECU reprogramming is essential.
11.8-12.3:1 CR would be optimal with the needed fuel gadgets for that...but you'll soon find that out for yourself.
use a good moly-based assembly lube and break in the cams as discussed.
covered here many times before both here and on our website.
good luck.
