Default funny smell and white/gray smoke

during normal acceleration, my car runs fine. however, when i hit the gas at WOT during 4th gear... especially 5th gear... while going up an incline, my car bogs out and if i step on the gas long enough while its bogging out... i see white/grayish smoke in my rearview. its pretty damn noticable, too. any idea what it could be?

by the way... when this is happening, my air/fuel guage is reading yellows and reds. it could be possible that my engine is detonating.

White smoke means you're burning oil.

Black smoke means you're running rich (excess fuel)

Blue smoke means you're burning oil.

it depends,
white smoke(kind of sweet smell) is coolant.
black/blue/grayish smoke is oil.
black smoke is fuel(rich).

good luck!

from what most people tell me.. if my headgasket was blown, my car wouldnt run that great at all. i can downshift at WOT and speed on the freeway at 90mph if i wanted to and it would be fine. i know im burnin alot of oil because there is black soot from the tailpipe all the way up to the tailights. of course its not as bad away from the tailpipe, but it is not normal. all that damn oil in my intercooler piping must be burnin in there, too. i just dont get why the smoke blows out and the boggin occurs mainly in 4th and 5th gear.

By your description, it may be that you're burning too much fuel.

That black soot is probably unburnt fuel, not oil!

the black soot is fuel, you are running rich..what is your fuel setup?

i cant be running rich because im readin lean on my guage. also, i know for a fact that the black soot is not fuel because when i washed my car the other day, i couldnt remove the ugly stain right above my muffler tip. its the color of oil stained into the paint of the bumper where most of the black soot was embedded. grrr!

interesting thought, though...
