Default Head Gasket Question

I am doing a head gasket on my 93 Civic SI/EX. I got the head off and am now removing the head bolts and there are shavings coming out with the head bolts. Should I get the proper size tap (if there is one long enough) and re-tap the holes or is the block fucked.

Any suggestions would be great...I am afraid!!!

quit being so uneducated...

dont worry about it... the threads may not have been perfectly tapped when the block was cast... just continue as planned...

See and I say that is bad advice. I would get the correct size tap and retap them just to make sure the threads are good. You definitely don't want to cross thread them.

yeah, it certainly wouldnt hurt anything to retap the holes, but the bolts were obviously holding fine and ended up there somehow, so i figure you ought to be fine going on as planned.
