Why not use the correct sohc vtec ECU? The pinouts are surely different. I should think you could even make a trade for the correct ECU.

In order to use the correct ecu you will have to convert to OBD-1 . This guy doesnt want to hand out the money to do this and I have never attempted this before. I was just curious if this would work. What do you mean the pinouts are surley different? Have you tried this before or have you looked into this before? I am looking for some people that might know a little something about this so please dont reply just to be replying.

yes you can use it. it would be advisable to remap the fuel and ignition so it will match your particular engine, and 8200 rpm might be a tad high for a rev limit.

I'm using an automatic PR3 ecu on my mini-me. I haven't road tested it yet as the car is getting body worked and painted. Motor seems to run fine, I just need to adjust the timing.

if you use the pr3/pwo, you gotta use the obdo distributor and injectors.

you can use it BUT you need to get it chipped to disable the knock sensor. Either that or you have to figure out some way to trick the ECU (like a resistor, but I dont know the value) into thinking it has a knock sensor hooked up.

Also you have to either add another bung to your header for a 2nd o2 sensor or get an ECU program with NO o2 sensors (no, you cannot disable just 1 read here: http://www.hondata.com/techo2problem.html).

The best ECU choice here is a 1 wire VTEC ECU from either zdyne or a PS9/auto PM6 with the 1 wire code in it (if you have a PS9 I can easily make it a 1 wire VTEC ECU).

Yeah, I forgot about mentioning that. I do have the code on my ecu for the 2nd O2, but it's not throwing a code for the knock sensor....yet.

get one chipped with a "mugen" style program which disables cel's for 2nd 02 and knock sensor. The one i used had vtec at 5000 RPM's and rev limit was 9500 (never came close to that!!) and i used it earlier in my B16A hatch, but later i had put a D16Z6 in my 89 CRX Si and need an ecu. I first used a PM6 with a summit RPM activated switch and then put in my PR3. It works great if you can stand it being a little rich. It ran good for a while till I gave it to a friend for his B16/hatch swap.

Why does no one understand this? You CANNOT disable only 1 of the o2 sensors. its all or nothing. You can only run in open loop or closed loop, not half-open loop or something. did you read the hondata article?

no i didn't read it. I guess it disables all sensors, my bad. It will still throw engine lights if other sensors aren't working properly or aren't plugged in trust me. Ran fine for 20k miles as long as you don't have to pass smog or anything. I just reduced fuel across the board with a fields and it ran great. The thing is my PR3 even before the reprogram on my B16 always ran fine, never threw an engine light and i always ran one O2.

you can use a knock sensor on a sohc vtec, or even a sohc non vtec. you just need to drill out a hole and tap it for threads and thread in a knock sensor.. make it close to the block, i've seen people use the alternator bracket for this purpose. all the knock sensor does it listen for "ping" sounds coming form the engine, as long as its located on the block somewhere it will work
