like i said ,just venting . but it is a common occurence right now . like all hondas are linked up by satellite or sumtin. mine just went out 2 months ago .
My voltage regulator took a crap last night, replaced the battery-old one fried. Too lazy to pull the alternator

Bearings are going........Mine just did it. I had metal flakes falling out of my alternator and it was throwing sparks from the flakes.

That is seriously hard to tell actually. I had a factory alternator on my old D16A6 last for 145K miles then it shitted on me. Bought a rebuilt one, shitted out on me a week later, got another alternator under warranty and it lasted for about 3 months but it was starting to die out before i sold the car
So it really varies. As long as you have a warranty it'll be ok, it's just a hassle changing out alternators all the time. Of course, if you're a high roller, you can buy a brand new factory Honda one, it'll last you a good 100K+

i was on my way back from a trip and mine dies 200 miles away from home. had a friend come out with a spare and fixed! but does make a whining noise. although the engine he pulled it from only had around 50k. it is an original honda alt. although i bet it will be goin out soon. fuggin things!!
1 obvious one is your battery light coming on, or your battery dying often. When you drive your lights steadily get dimmer and dimmer (THats because the alternator is already dead, and your battery is dying), Thats all that I can think of right now because those all happend to me. 1 way you can test if the alternator is dead, or going to die is take off your positive battery terminal, if your motor dies that means the alt. is totally dead. If the motor loses rpm and sounds like it wants to die but keeps holding on and running, the alt. is going to die very soon. A healthy Alt. will allow the engine to run perfectly fine when the positive batt. terminal is disconnected while the car is running.
If you own an EF and havent replaced the Dizzy or the Alt. yet, expect it in the future because it seems really common with our cars

Mine just started to go a few weeks ago, then was fine for about a week. I replaced the belt with sircrxracer and now it screams like a bitch from 1K to 2K and when I hit the breaks or turn on the wipers.

so you are telling me cold weather could screw your alternator? i am in 10 degree weather right now and my rex pooped on me. i dont know why, but when i put it in first and gave it gas it hesitated and hesitated then went and today it did the same thing then finally died. i couldnt get it cranked back up. it sounded fine and was turning over fine but just wouldnt crank up. do you all think that my alt. is bad?
