SO I'm looking to replace my old worn out plugs with some new ones. I only need some factory replacements. I checked Napa online and found a coupld of things. They have both the Bosch and NGK plugs. Both are a platinum plug. The Bosch plugs you can get either the Platinum @ .052 gap for $1.99 or the Platinum +4 (it says "Do Not Gap") for $5.99. The NGK's Platinums run .044 gap for $12.99.
My question is whether the more expensive NGK's would be worth it? Is that little bit of a gap difference going to be worth it? Right now I am running a factory valve train/cams with only some fuel and ecu tuning. However I am anticipating going with a Spec B setup around January.

Any advice here would be great. My plugs are in bad shape and I need to get them replaced.

Just get NGK coppers. Copper = better conductor. Only plus to plat is longer life.

 

For the Copper NGK, do you have the Part# for it?
I went to PepBoys for replacement.. $25 each for the NGK/DENSO replacement..
I was like "WHAT??????"
I ended up sanding the plugs and put it back in place..

 

I would recommend the stock plugs if your motor is stock.

PFR6G11- stock# = 7777 Should be 10-12 each

But will performance be hampered between the two now and when I get the Spec B's? The main question I have is on the gapping and whether that will affect performance?

I dont like bosch plugs. The +4s are crap and the regular ones dont
work all that well.

As far as gapping is concerned, i gap all my plugs before i put them in
so i dont look at what the gap they come with is, only plug type.

 

I juss put in some new NGK-Rs yesterday and I couldn't believe the difference it made...

I should really stick to my own scheduled maintenance and not the books.... my stock ones have seen very little mileage in comparision but the firing tip was all rounded and per the manual's recommendation that is when they should be replaced.... instead of the recommeded 80k kms or some crap replacement time....

I gapped them at 0.041 which I think are the stock gaps.... did anybody else get Denso's for stock plugs?

 

What differences did you notice?

 

I have been having some high rpm misfire and stumbling...I kept on thinking it was just bad gas ...and went from 92oct...to 94oct...and the problem kept on persisting...

the problems which **** me off the most are the ones which come and go intermittently...one day it'll do it..or one time it won't etc....

I replaced the rotor and cleaned out the dist. cap contacts..and it was still there....by this time I was ready to drop change for new plugwires..until I remembered I had never replaced the plugs before.....

DOH!! Grrrrr.....popped them in....I don't think the car is any faster but it sure feels smoother..the stumbling at high rpm has been totally eliminated.... back to 92oct...thanks to the bastardly high gas prices....!

Gonna check the plugs today...I think I am still running lean.....

 

I removed a plug, what colour should the tips be....

Mine seem to have a whitish tint to them. Does this mean I am running lean?

 

White = lean.

But unless you shut the motor off IMMEDIATELY after doing a wide open throttle
run, then then reading is almost useless. There are certain things that will remain
like marks from detonation and such, but most of the time you wont get a good
idea just from the color.

 

whitish tint should mean lean!!

healthy color is a deep brown...mine seems to be a reddish brown....some splotches of white....odd....

Well at least I know I was running healthy then. Mine looked like they were rusty.

Good copper equivalent is available through all Honda and Acura dealerships. I forget the NGK part number, but they are cheap as hell.

I found a set of plugs on www.clubplug.net for a pretty decent price. I got the factory NGK plugs at $10.XX a piece. With shipping it came out to $53.
