you dont need the obd2 harness to run the engine.... all the plugs from your existing harness will plug into the engine. as far as what ecu to use....... p28

Yes keep your engine harness and run a 1992-1995 D16Z6 P28 ECU.
The only wiring changes I can think of will be your o2 sensor wiring because your VX uses a 5-wire o2, and the D16Y8 will use a 4-wire o2 sensor.
Also you'll need to either use a 1992-1995 Si/EX distributor OR simply move two wires over from the one plug on the Y8 dizzy into the extra plug on your engine harness.
I've got pics of that since I had to do the same thing on the B16A2 dizzy with the OBD1 Z6 engine harness in my fiancee's 1992 Si.
Also you need to keep the VX alternator too because the plug on the Y8 alternator won't match the D15Z1/Vx engine harness.
There's one more small change, but I need to IM Kenji for it.

Here's those pics that I took:

Also the intake air temp sensor is in your manifold on the OBD1 engine. On the D16Y8 it's on the intake tubing, so you'll need to extend the wires for the IAT sensor like so:

It might look hard, but trust me it's really easy. The dizzy wires are the same exact color, and extending the IAT wires is as easy as soldering and taping two wires.
That should be it, but if I think of anything else I'll let you know.
Converting to OBD2 is SHITTY.
OBD2 sucks ***. It throws more CELs than OBD1 ever will, and they also have totally sensitive readings for o2 as well. They throw random misfire codes, secondary o2 codes (OBD1 only uses 1 o2 sensor), etc.
In a nutshell keep your OBD1 harness and an OBD1 P28 ECU and you'll get more power and less CELs out of that D16Y8.

Just a FYI for all you guys doing this swap. Find a 1.5 Dizzy from a 92-95 civic. It bolts right up to the d16y8 head. And walla you have odb1.
