D16z6 ignition rotor removal?
I'm trying to get the ignition rotor off before I get poured on, but it won't budge. I can't find my crappy manual and I searched the topic and got a big fat zero. Am I missing something? I've done this a million times before, just not on this engine.
Thanks for any help.

Rotor cap, or ignition switch? Sorry either misunderstanding or Im dumb.</TD></TR></TABLE>
ignition rotor is the plastic peice underneath the cap that spins around in circles. sorry but thats the best i can describe it. and the ignition switch is inside the car where you put your key in to start the car. and there is no such thing as a rotor cap. anways, just take the screw out of the rotor and just pull out on it...

I know what an ignition switch is, and rotor cap was a lame attempt at a joke.
I just only heard ignition rotor refered to as a rotor, so I thought maybe it was 2 different things.

I said ignition rotor to distinguish it from brake rotors, which also have pain in the *** screws that strip and turn to crap if you actually try to remove them. I ended up finding the screw and had to turn the motor over a few times to get it to a point of accessability. Of course, all it wanted to do was strip so I gently used an impact driver to get it out. The best part is, the damned thing STILL won't come off. As usual, a 5 minute job turns into a major project.
Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.

I dunno dude, but I plan on replacing mine since it's pretty beat. If I can't find one in a bolt bucket, I'll let you know what size it is when I pick up a new one.

damn mine came right off. Just make sure you have it lined up with that exact point of accessability. I had to turn my crank pulley to get it lined up right to replace the screw.

Dude, this is turning into an ordeal and a half. I snapped the top off and I'm down to the metal insert. It's actually rusted to the shaft. I had to go to Home Depot to get fiber cutting wheels for the Dremel since the emery ones kept shattering. Liquid Wrench and Vise Grips didn't help a bit. If something utterly stupid and abnormal can happen, it'll happen to me. When this nightmare is over, it's
time.
Of course, I forgot to bring the beat screw with me to the Depot to see if I could find a replacement.

Well Zak, looks like you and I are in the same boat. I cut a notch in the head of my screw so I could use a regular flat head screw driver to put it in and take it out again, and then I hit the threads with a wire brush attached to a drill to clean them up a bit. Bad idea.
The cool part is that I somehow managed to fire the screw out of the vice with the brush and now it's with all the missing socks and teeth the tooth fairy took from me as a child. Bub bye.
I put it back together minus that God damned screw, which I think is over-rated at this point and guess what? It starts and runs fine. I'm gonna get a replacement screw though.
I should probably mention that I ground the metal sleeve of the rotor down to a shitty little nub and it finally came off and I managed to get electrocuted, well shocked, in the process 'cause I intelligently left the key turned to the "on" position.
Funny, I don't remember signing up for idiot lessons.
It's New Year's Eve and time for a beverege or ten. Have a great one and be safe guys.
