help! starter wont turn sometimes car wont start!
I've got this weird problem, usually in the morning or when its cold ..the car wont start... the starter would not turn.. and after about 10 cranks or so the starter turns and car starts.. now its happening more frequently, even when car is warm...Somone told me that the ground for starter might be lose, if thats the case could someone post a diagram of the starter and possibly where the ground is... that i should be checking for. The battery is good since all the radio and lights work fine. Thanks in advance!
I had the same problem with mine and I replaced the distributor wires and spark plugs and know it just starts right up

AFAIK it takes less power to run the radio/lights than to turn the starter.
you may wanna check you battery, or try jump starting it initially just as a pre-check.
someone correct me if I'm wrong

I had this problem and as shocking as this sounds . . .it was the strater. Pull the strater and try starting the car. Does it spin freely? Mine would click but not spin. Replaced and it works perfect.

Me too. Starters are an item that seem to fail rather soon on 3rd generation Integras, along with brake master cylinders. I only had 90,000 miles or so when both started acting up on my car.

Hi, I'm an automotive technitian by the way..I have repaired many of this type problem.....hope I can give you some ideas...
First: identify your problem, when the problem is acting up, when you come across the problem which you cannot crank over the engine after couple of times trying, get a friend to give you a hand.
Firstly hold your key in the STARTING position and hold on and dont let it go, then call your friend to get anything with a bit of weight like hammer, call him to tap the starter, (avoid hitting the two external wire terminals, hit the starter body) if after hitting you engine cranks over then you have yourself a starter contact fault just like any other cars... the copper contacts in the starter solenoid gets worn after years of usage, most of the time by hitting or gentle tapping the starter body you can probably get the electrical contacts to work better than it is due to the vibration that tapping or hitting causes.....
If engine cranks over then you can start removing the starter to get a proper electrician to have a look at, usually its not expensive to have those starter solenoid contacts replaced... but there is a bit involved in this small rebuild so you better ask for the electrician's help after you have removed the starter (note: this is a simple way to diagnoise is your starter is playing up and its relatively simple to do) give it try and with you the best in getting the problem sorted...
