Hitting the rev limiter
OK guys, I know most of you hit the rev limiter on you car right before you shift. To my understanding, that keep's you from not bogging down when you shift to next gear. My Q? is, is it safe doing that? would it hurt the motor or anything else? would this be necessary? please let me know. I like to try it out when I go to the track but I want to know what's your opinion. Thanks.
a couple of bounces or a single bounce(how it should be done) off the rev limiter shouldnt hurt
unless you havent had a valve adjustment ever....then you might end up with some bent valves

Hitting the rev limiter is not a good thing. Some cars have fuel cut when you hit to limiter. I run a digital 6 which is spark cut but once u let off the limiter you have to worry about detnation. If I were you I would set the limiter a little higher or change gears before it comes to that point. I don't know if your running a spand alone or what but my car burns the ignitor if i stand on the limitir to long which in turn ***** the distributor up after a few times of burning out the limiter.
I'm using S200B. is hondata cuts fuel or sparks. What would you do, let say You launch in first gear with slicks, LSD and you started spinning, you tried to shift into 2nd and the car bogs down, how can we prevent that from happening. Some people told me that hitting the rev limiter is the only way to not bog when shifting. Thanks. More info please.
Its ok for very short periods of times but I have been told by Gary Kubo that hitiing the rev limiter for long periods of time will squeeze oil out of the bearing cuz its being shocked and that is not good
who hits the rev limiter that is not good at all, just slam the ******* thing full throttle or side step the clutch, bet when you got a decent amount of power you cant really full throttle shift ie turbo because you will spin hard. hitting the rev limiter isnt good, for the sake of your motor.

alot of misinfo in this thread. hitting the rev limiter is done for a reason. it is not a bad thing to do when you know what you are doing, have the right set up, and are doing it on purpose. but for those who say NEVER hit the rev limiter, they are not very experienced at drag racing a fwd turbo car. i am not going to say more about it cause in my opinion, giving away everything isn't the right move. but you can definetly figure it out with alot of practice.
Ok there are some setups that can take that for a few second but thru what ive done in the past and these days my car hasn't been the ones that like the rev limiter. Ive bounced it first and second and changed gears without anything happening but Its still not some that should be done regularly. Oh on the note of not experienced drag racers thats an understatement bro can't take what youve learned and make judgement on everyone else. There are guys out there that have run 8's and 9's that say its not good so you should just give feed back and your points and be cool with all racers. i notice on here though theres a lot of smack talkers and internet rambo's that need to chill. Never question another mans knowledge unless you ready to face off on the line or some ****. Yes i do see your have a 500 whp street civic. My thoughts of turbo cars is V8 bound as far as knowledge. Written in stone! add this and that and it will do this in the books. Thats why I choose to see what I can do the hard way all motor or nitrous where every little step counts for some.
well, i am not an internet rambo, nor do i question others "opinions". every man is entitled to their own opinion. where it gets them is another story. i was refering to fwd turbo civics and i have a pretty good idea who runs what with their set ups. if anyone chooses to get down the 1/4 another way than that then thats fine by me. people are individuals and are able to make up there minds to do what they want and how they want. but for people on here saying its "wrong" to hit the rev limiter, or its "bad", well they are mistaken......and i'll just leave it at that.

Hitting the rev limiter can help allow ur car speed to catch up to ur wheel speed. If your bogging when you shift to the next gear you are either spinning alot and landing real low in ur rpm's in the next gear or you are short shifting your car and should raise the rev limit.

I can't imagine you'd see much in the way of a positive change, but if you learn to do it the same on every shift, I guarantee that it'll help you with consistancy, which is, in the end what wins races.

isn't rev limiter the protection from overrevving?
it's made so you don't redline the **** out of your car. it's there to keep your motor in a safe area so u don't destroy your engine. People wouldn't made rev limiters if it's bad for your engine. my point is: rev limiter is made for you to not destory your engine. ask my 159k vx engine, i hit revlimiter that **** on purpose, so i can swap in a new engine but it's not working because rev limiter doing it's job.
