im getting an engine swap from a stock d16 to a jdm d16y7 on my 90 civic 4-door and a have a couple of questions... will the valve cover from the d15 fit on the d16 and how can i tell if the engine is really a d16 and especially how can i tell if its a jdm or not? i will appreciate as much advice i can get cause im blowing a pretty penny on it and i dont wanna get ripped off...

There should be an engine code on the engine

 

where do i look for the code? what should it say?

 

there will be an engine stamp on the front side of the motornext to the tranny. if its jdm it will look like D16Y, usdm looks like D16y7 get the point. and no the valve covers are not iner changeable.

 

so basically it wont say 7 next to the d16y ? cause i think that the one im getting say D16Y7... so where the 7 be?

 

im also wondering ... what are the specs comparing the stock usdm d15 to the jdm d16y7? ( sorry for all the dumb a$$ questions but im new to the engine stuff and im trying to absorb all the knowlegde i can

there wont be a 7 next to anything if its JDM...JDM Honda engines are only like B16A, B18C, H22A, etc...if you get a D16Y7 it would be USDM...

 

so i am getting ripped off! cause i clearly remeber it having the 7 next to the y... damn it... im hella pissed now... and i know that the shop that is working on my car log on to this site and im sure they know who i am... well there is nothing too wrong with the Y7...it makes about ths same power as the d16a6 if i remember correctly, and would probably have lower mileage...how much are they charging you?

 

$1625 installed, but the guy told me that it IS a jdm and thats y im so pissed off

i would just confront them and ask (so this is a real JDM motor right?) depending on his answer thats when i would go the fu$k off. if its jdm you will see for example (D16Y) and thats all. if he still tries to jack you then tell him your not that stupid and you know that hes trying to take you for your money

 

but either way even if it is a jdm... is it worth the $1625?

the thing is that the engine is already in! ( we are just waiting for the valve cover) and i almost already paid for it...( cause im also getting a new tranny and tires and rims witch im sure im getting ripped on also) but the estimate just for the engine was $1625 -----And my other question is what is the difference between the usdm d16y7 and the jdm d167?

 

dang 1600 just for the engine not inlcuding the tranny.. I fee REALLY sorry for you man, you need to tell them take that motor back.. You're getting fucked over soo bad. The complete swap is worth 700 Bucks TOPS and thats including EVERYTHING
