Default Stroked B16 - will it work?

I was thinking about this last night. Does anyone think this would work:
B16A block - sleeved over to 86 mm
B18A crank (1.44:1 rod:stroke, with custom short rods)
forged rods and hyper pistons (flat top or very mild popup)
P72 head /ITR cams (or maybe M22s), milled to get compression around 12:1
stock GsR IM ported
maybe a DC 4-1, or some other good midrange header
DO you think I'd have a fat enough power band to abuse an Ls transmission, yet still be able to rev to 8500 comfortably. I'm thinking a project like this might be in order for my next build.

Why would it be that low?

Ive seen stroked B16's ranging from 1.51-1.58. You can use the LS or GSR rods with the LS or GSR crank along with a custom piston. You can alos us B16 rods and a custom piston for either but with the GSR crank the B16 rods need to be shimmed down a bit on the big end t fit the narow P72 rod journals.

Custom rods arent the best way to go, a custom piston with a smaller compression height is your best bet.

1) I am thinking custom stort rods
2) I am thinking 86 mm hypereutectic pistons

not stock Ls rods, not stock CTR pistons

because I'd want it to be that low. If I was going to use a stock Ls rod I might as well use a stock B18 block as well and save myself the little bit of custom money.
I'm thinking of building an out of hand torque monster.

There is a guy around here, that used an ls crank in his b16. He used ls rods, with custom rod journals and custom pistons. With 12.5:1 pistons and completely stock head he ran a 12.8. Car absolutely ripped for having a stock head.

With that short of a rod id be checking the clearnce between the piston skirt and the counter weight at BDC,

yeah - they'll probably hit at bdc - I'm not sure where I'd get the pistons from - I'm just throwing ideas out there now.

do you want a monster of a B16 block? then you are getting there with your idea.
do you want a torque monster? then get off the B16 block and custom pistons or rods and just sleeve the thing and youre better off sleeving a B18A or B18C. I mean you can continue youre ideas with a B16 but you are lookinginto adding more costs than you really should since you need some custom work for the GSR crank to work out in that B16 block.

out of hand torque monster huh? how you gonna do that without 2 liters or more?

Then sell the b16 and boost a b20

The rod:stroke is lower. This would make more torque than a B20Vtec. I'm trying to see if people what people think about going the other way with rod-stroke.

well if you don t plan on revving your engine to high and want a torque monster that will be in need of rebuild in fairly short amount of time, go with the lower rod ratio. i personally would stick with ls crank and rods, sleeved with custom pistons. its just a matter of personal preference and fundage i guess
