Looking in the Haynes manual, the rocker arms and synchronizing assembly look like a d15z1, but my valve cover has d16 written on it. Which leads me to beleive its a d16a...verification please?
Is there a better way to identify a head?

Z1 Or Y5.
First off is the roller rockers. 2ndly, there is only two followers which tell you that the engine was a VTEC-E engine.
Find the year stamp on the head.
EDIT!!!! only 1 exhaust valve....Z1

d15z1 is from a civic VX, right? In that case, it would have VTEC-E. Is there a VTEC solenoid? How about the intake cam lobes, is one of them per cylindar practically round, with hardly any lift? If it looks like a d15Z1, but it has d16 written on it, it could be from a civic HX.
