Default Gutting the SI

How many of you have gutted your Si and what weight did it put you at.
Please give a description of your mods and how gutting the car effected noise inside the car.

A few have removed the back seats and carpeting, but I dont' believe they'ved weighed it.

Hopefully I'll be stripping my car down for a few weight tests in the next 6 months. Sorry it's not sooner, but I will be weighing everything that comes out.

I've weighed all the parts that go in the back end, including seats, seatbacks, decking, carpet, jack/tools, spare, seatbelt buckles, and it totals up just shy of 95lbs of weight.

I did not remove the plastic panels or speakers, though I suspect there's about 10 lbs worth, and more if you take out the rear seatbelt winders (though I suspect they are welded to the chassis)

When you drive around with it all removed, you hear a louder exhaust and wheels (of course) and you also hear the slight whining of what might be the fuel pump or something coming from the rear...If you're bushings are old in the rear suspension, you'll probably hear something there too at low speeds.

The car does feel a bit looser and peppier. I would gut mine and refinish the back end with some light decking and carpet if it were allowed in auto-x for my class...I've only had 2 passengers in the back since I bought it in June '02

maybe some people want to use their car for more than cruising the block. maybe racing...who knows. but if you aren't going to post something intelligent while trying to get your post count higher, than you're wasting your time at h-t.

Why would they weld the winders in? What if they had a problem and had to be replaced under warranty, I thought all seats belts were removable?

excuse me??? i don't think i have to own one to be able to post here. you can have knowledge and not own something. or you can be learning about a car, such as myself. and for your info, i am going to be purchasing an EP next summer. i wanted to wait until the 04 came out with its revisions. plus i ended up purchasing a mercedes, a 190 turbodiesel with manual and limited slip. plus an ultra-rare factory body kit. it was something i couldn't pass up. so i put the EP on hold for now.
i'm not starting crap, you came on here initially starting crap about the guy taking stuff out of the car. i stated the reason why he might want too. and you'd be suprised how many people race their EP or DC5 on a track.
and from many of your other posts on h-t, you haven't contributed much regarding EP's.

One other mod that helps is to get rid of the lead acid battery and replace it with a smaller dry cell. We used a Genesis battery -- only weighs 14 pounds. Still more than enough power to start up the car, but a little strained if you have an upgraded audio/video system.

Best Regards

Green Bean, you're right, I looked in the Helms, and the rear side belts are held in with two bolts. The middle belt inside the 60% seat is welded in to the frame of the seat. (dont ask how I know )

NEUSPEED, wheres the best place to get a Hawker Genesis?
